  • A delightful cottage in a quiet pedestrianised lane in the heart of the historic conservation area of Deal. Perfectly located just yards from both the long beach, pier and promenade and the high street with its variety of boutique shops and cafes. The cottage is a wonderful blend of traditional; with exposed beams and a large fireplace with wood burner, and modern, with comfortable sofas, a well-equipped kitchen, and the luxury of two bedrooms each with en-suites. It even has a small courtyard for relaxing after a great day exploring.

Utterly Breathtaking

This was our first stay here but I wouldn’t stay anywhere else now. This is a quaint cottage with so much charm. It was so cosy to sit with the log burner. Perhaps a new toaster could be obtained but apart from that it was perfect.

Perfect

Small and Sweet

A lovely cottage, great wood stove and very clean. Perfect location in Deal, We had a great time. The only issue is it is very small, and after a week with just two of us (one being a 6ft6 man) we couldn’t handle it, barely a one person cottage in terms of kitchen space or bathroom space. But otherwise cannot fault it was pretty and cozy.

Beautiful cosy cottage near the sea

This is a beautifully renovated and maintained cottage in a quiet alley, just off one of the most historic streets of Deal, and a half minute walk to the seafront. The house is small but very comfortable with a big sofa and log burner in the living room, and good bedrooms. (Tight and steep staircase for anyone with mobility issues). A sweet little yard to sit in when it's sunny. Very close to many very good bars and restaurants. We love it and highly recommend.

Cosy

The cottage is an excellent location, very quiet streets and a good pub around the corner. The 2 flights of stairs are windy and steep, so you need to concentrate but it was fun. The top bedroom is in the roof space and on the right there are ceiling angles which would hinder a tall person, I am 5.4 and was OK apart from one head bash. The little patio is a perfect suntrap in the afternoon. All the fittings have been executed perfectly and the mattresses and bed linen are excellent. Kudos to the decorator. We had a lovely time.

A charming, characterful cottage in a lovely part of Deal.

We spent a really happy week at this comfortable, stylishly decorated cottage. It’s close to all amenities but it’s charming courtyard situation makes it peaceful and quiet. The log burner is very effective and plenty of logs were supplied. All towels and bed linen are of excellent quality. The shower is wonderful and both bathrooms were warm and cosy throughout the days and nights. The hand basins in both bathrooms are very small but this is the only criticism we have of this otherwise very well appointed, pretty and comfortable cottage.

Didn't work for our family

I have mixed ratings for Portobello Cottage. The online description, cleanliness, and communication with host would be 4-5 stars. However, this property just didn't work for our family of 4: mom, dad, and two teenage daughters, all over 5'10" tall. The 3rd floor bathroom was not able to be used. The handheld "shower" was too small/short for any of us. We all had to share the second floor shower which was pretty small (could barely raise arms to wash hair, and no space to change clothes). Everything about the accommodation was just too small for our family--even though the property was exactly as described. My head bumped the ceiling so many times! I chose the property--and paid more than I budgeted--because we wanted use of two separate showers. As it was, we barely had the comfort of just one shower. There is a washer/dryer all-in-one machine, but, as Americans, we were not prepared for loads to take 4 hours. (We couldn't dry clothes on a rack because it rained our entire stay.) This would be a lovely cottage for a smaller family or a couple. It just didn't work for us.

It was lovely, but extremely compact

The cottage was very clean and the thoughtful addition of the welcome pack was received as intended and I would like to thank the owners for that. It was well-thought out in terms of storage, however it was a disappointment for us as a family by the fact that it is extremely compact. Although I had carefully looked at the photos prior to making the booking, it was a shock to arrive and discover that the property was actually very, very limited in space for us to move around and to be comfortable - for example: due to the majority of the space being taken up by the King-size bed in the upper bedroom, both my husband and I kept catching our arms on the latch of the door to the bathroom (causing scratches), and in addition there was very little room to pass freely between the end of the bed and the bathroom door (which caused bruises, and I would hasten to add that we are not overweight). The kitchen was the biggest shock because we like to cook and it is very much lacking in space and therefore it was not possible to have 2 people in there at the same time. On the positive side, the courtyard garden was a pleasant place in which to sit to eat, and the profusion of pots overflowing with beautiful flowers and plants just outside the front of the property was a delight, but of course we weren't sleeping or cooking outside, so the aforementioned dearth of sufficient room to feel comfortably relaxed marred our stay. For these reasons, i would not recommend this property to a family.

Charming location - very happy

The location in the narrow streets of Deal is very charming and despite the narrow streets, access by car to load/unload was never difficult and free parking was really not far away (on the seafront). The property was well-maintained and the furnishings comfortable. Happy to recommend!

Hewitt week visit

It’s in a great location for all of Deal. The sea, the town, pubs, restaurants and of course RCPGC. Our only exception to the scoring is comfort .. I am tall and the cottage is small. That aside, everything was excellent and we hope to return soon.

Such a quaint and perfect property. We had such a lovely family get away, perfectly located, the house has a lovely feel to it and is finished to a very high standard. We had such a brilliant time.

A week in Portobello Vourt

The cottage was in a very convenient location for the wonderful beach, shops and pubs that Deal had to offer. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The team at Keepers were attentive and professional.

Lovely cottage

This lovely cottage, in a great position was an ideal base for our stay in Kent. It is very well-equipped with everything you could need. It would have been helpful if there was some shelving in the bathroom with the shower as there is not really anywhere to put your toiletries. I felt it would have been nice to have extra towels. At home I would use far more than one bath towel and one hand towel. I appreciate there was two bath towels provided. On entry, we found the bottom key safe difficult to operate. We eventually left both keys in the top key safe.

Our 10 days at Portobello Court

We have stopped in Deal a few times before in other cottages but our first here. It's a lovely little cottage, we thought of it a bit like staying on a boat as it is compact and ideally you don't want to be taller than 6ft. The stairs are a tight spiral with a rope hand rail as well as hand rails but you need to be sure footed. Location is gorgeous as the neighbours who have lived there nearly 30yrs maintain the wonderful arrangement of potted flowers, trees and colourful bushes. It has all the facilities you need but you should shop 'day to day' which is not a problem as nothing in Deal is more than a 5 or 10 minute stroll.

Portobello Court, Deal

Overall my stay was good. However, I did find the bathrooms small and little space to put anything. Without the log burner, the temperature in the living room was not high enough for me, even with the thermostat temperature increased. I spend a lot of time reading and writing and there is no view from the downstairs windows and it is practically impossible to see the sky.

Small but perfectly formed

The cottage is small, but has everything you need, and a great location. If you struggle with steps the cottage is probably not for you as there are steps in to the kitchen area, and the stairs are steep and twist. The location is great for the beach and Deal town. Comfortable bed, and light and airy rooms.

Cozy place.

This place is adorable and cozy! The area is quiet and within walking distance to the beach and a lot of restaurants and cafes. Loved it and would stay there again!!
