Mykonos Travel Guide Video

For warm days on beautiful Aegean beaches and lively nights in bars and clubs, this island in the Cyclades is the perfect spot.

Mykonos is a popular destination in the circular cluster of Greek islands known as the Cyclades. Visit Mykonos to enjoy sun and nightlife, creating a vacation with relaxing days and exciting evenings.

You’ll find plenty of variety among the island’s dozens of beaches. Paradise Beach on the southern side has a party atmosphere. If it’s too crowded, go to nearby Psarou, Paraga Beach or Platys Gialos Beach. Visit Agios Stefanos to view huge cruise ships in the Mykonos Town port. Agia Anna Beach in Kalafatis on the eastern side is a less busy setting and generally has good conditions for windsurfing.

Much of the nightlife in Mykonos centers on bars and restaurants near the beaches. Watch the sun set from a spot in the Little Venice neighborhood of Mykonos Town and stay for a seafood dinner, cocktails, music and reveling with old or new friends. Some of the island’s best gay bars are here. Head south to Ornos, Paraga, Paradise Beach and Super Paradise Beach for beach bars, dance clubs and parties.

For a quieter activity, sign up for a cooking class to learn how to prepare foods with the healthy Mediterranean diet of olives, legumes, seafood, orzo and fresh fruits and vegetables. Many events are held in private homes or on farms near Mykonos Town.

Also in the town are numerous museums. Learn about folk history at 19th-century Lena’s House and nautical tradition at the Aegean Maritime Museum. See the working Boni Windmill nearby.

Take a ferry to nearby Delos, considered a sacred place, which abounds in history from the Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic periods. Wander around this UNESCO World Heritage Site, said to be the birthplace of the gods Apollo and Artemis.

Fly to Mykonos from Athens or other select spots in Europe or travel by ferry from Piraeus Port in Athens. For a truly relaxing vacation, consider a more leisurely journey between islands on a sailboat.
