We loved having an entire apartment to ourselves for the duration of our stay in Scotland! It was near a lot of great restaurant/food options, and just a short walk to the train station and a tram stop. It was a little outside of the heart of Edinburgh, so it was much quieter than it would have been if it had been more central, but we liked that! We didn’t realize we had booked a lower-level (basement) apartment, and I would not do that again. It was pretty dark and damp, which we weren’t fans of. There was also a pretty large spider in the shower that sent my child crawling out of her skin (yes, critters happen, but I would attribute this guys presence to us being in the basement). Everything felt damp because of the humidity in the apartment, so we just felt sticky all the time. That being said, I’ve heard the upper level apartments are lovely, and I think we would have had a better experience had we been in one of those. It really is a beautiful property, and I’d recommend it others - just make sure you book an upstairs apartment.

Beautiful and clean property right in the center of Edinburgh Old Town! Only issue was that the pull-out couch mattress was extremely worn out and uncomfortable - I had to sleep on the couch cushions on the floor.

Had a great stay in a good location. Loved that the reception was 24 hours and that the front door was always locked. Also loved the little basket of goodies left in the room. Happy with this stay!

Really well located and unique, historic hotel.

Overall, this place is an OK stay. The room is nice. We had the English basement so we had a window with a partial sidewalk view. The room is small. Hot water is intermittent. This end of town is a bit far from most of the popular areas. All in all is was fine, but I wouldn’t stay here on another visit.

The room was great, the breakfast buffet was outstanding, the location superb! It was a wonderful trip thanks to Virgin Hotel.

Property was fantastic! Great views and grand. Recommend you double & triple check your booking so you don’t have to argue with the staff when checking in or out. The trainees at check in are quick to tell you that if you’re booking from a 3rd party site that it’s wrong when it includes things like access to clubs/amenities/parking and it’s only another 120 GPB for this or that above what you have already paid. Spa means dry sauna and pool w/bubbles- no hot tub all for only 42 GPB for 3 hrs a day access. Dinner reservations in the restaurant turned out to be seating in the adjacent lounge bar with people standing around you having drinks and the restaurant empty “because it’s easier for them but if you want to actually sit there by yourself, that’s fine with them”.

Beautiful quiet location. Lovely atmosphere- especially the old library. Food was excellent and good value for money. Staff very friendly. Small but clean room.

The room was perfect for what we needed. Everyone was helpful and kind. Had no problems. If you're looking for something close to the mile, this is it. And also for first time travlers again perfect location.

A lovely boutique hotel on the bus route for the city. It is full of character & although on main road we both slept like logs! V comfy bed .
