"Four of us stayed for one night only at Gion Ryokan Karaku ( half board) The Kaiseki dinner was amazing! Beautiful presentation of food and staff were very attentive. The location of Gion Ryokan Karaku is very central. Just a couple of minutes away from Yatasa Shrine and an easy 15 minutes walk to Kiyomizu Dera temple. We would recommend this Ryokan to anyone who enjoys good food and service "

"Gorgeous traditional Ryoken. Problem at check-in almost ruined it but we worked it out. You check in and receive a cotton kimono, toe socks and slippers. Everyone floats around like it’s ancient Japan. The rooms are lovely and spacious for Japan. The onsen is like an excellent spa! "We LOVED this place! We got the room with a private bathroom and garden. The garden was beautiful and our room was very large and spacious. The food they served in the restaurant was delicious and very well priced. Very nice staff. The place is located a bit away from the city, which is just what we wanted. It is located a very short 3 min walk from the bus stop. Very easily accessible. They will ship your luggage for you through a company if you ask (I recommend cuz it’s not fun taking...

"This is a traditional ryokan, and my second stay. First time was back in 2016 by myself. This time came here to stay with my wife. Bery friendly staff. I had a much better experience first time around, two ladies came and showed me how to change into a yukata and prepared my bed. Everything was more personal, this time they were a little busy. Too many guests. Still amazing experience. You can reserve the onsen for yourself privately. The dinner experience is a little expensive but worth it. "

"The property is outstanding and the staff are very willing to help if you are amenable to no chairs in the room and only sitting on the floor. Also the room has no shower, so you either must use shower during your private time or if you miss you time slot you have no choice but to use it during public time. For ladies two showers, so at worse you will share with one other person."

No hook in bathroom to hang up towels or bathrobe. Instructions as to how to operate the hot water system and washer would be helpful. Construction nearby so kind of noisy in the morning."
