Ottoburg

The Ottoburg is one of the oldest buildings in Innsbruck. Even from the busy and varied streets of the Old Town, the Ottoburg stands out. Its grey facade is given color by the red shutters of the small windows. Parts of the wall jut out towards the street at varying angles. Inside, it’s all the more impressive, with ancient parlors and a fine-dining restaurant.

Originally part of the Innsbruck Castle, Ottoburg was built in the late 15th century. Many historians say it is the oldest surviving building in the city, but whether this is correct or not is a matter of debate. Nevertheless, the building exudes charm and is the perfect location for the fine dining restaurant of the same name that has been here since 1745.

Bookings are essential at Ottoburg as it is an extremely popular restaurant. Four intimate dining rooms are decorated with carved wooden panels, gilded chandeliers and immaculate white linen. The furniture is a fine example of neo-gothic design. Reserve a seat by the window for views over the constant bustle of the Old Town.

Foodies will love the chance to sample local cuisine. The menu is heavily influenced by Austrian tradition, with several meat dishes and traditional dumplings presented alongside other more modern and international dishes.

Visit parlors on the lower floors that retain many original features, such as chandeliers and carved ceilings.

Ottoburg is closed on Mondays but is open for lunch and dinner every other day. It is easily accessible by bus or on foot. Due to its reputation, prices at Ottoburg can be more expensive than at other restaurants in the town. Book well in advance for special occasions such as Christmas and Easter.
