"Belize has been on my bucket list of places to travel. The opportunity to visit was presented to celebrate my son’s 13th birthday and my partner’s birthday since they both enjoy snorkelling, diving and being in the sea. We booked our trip to stay at Alaia Autograph as it was listed as a 4.5-5 star hotel. My family and I were displeased with the inability to swim in the sea from the beachfront due to the sargassum which was not being managed properly as it was building up on the beachfront. You couldn’t even take the kayaks out because it wasn’t maintained. We went on two snorkelling excursions( Mexico Rocks & Hol chan marine reserve); which we enjoyed and got great footage of wildlife. Other than that going to San Pedro was disappointing, who goes to the Caribbean to only swim in a pool. The hotel promotes/advertises activities like kayaking and paddling and we weren’t able to do that. A luxury property should be transparent about beach conditions and provide alternatives when advertised amenities like kayaking are blocked. We expressed our concerns to hotel management and received a mediocre response. They suggested us to go to Secret Beach which we did but to go there every day which is over 2hr drive round trip was not worth it. Also there’s a lack of entertainment in the evenings at the hotel. Not interested in going back to there."

"The staff was super attentive and friendly for the most part. Any requests we made were handled rather quickly. I personally think the restroom in our cottage could’ve be more clean, specifically the shower."

"The property itself was beautiful but unfortunately at this time of year (early May) there was a lot of sargassum so we did not enjoy the resort's beach. The pool was a nice sub. The food at the local restaurants in San Pedro were better than the resort's restaurant but it was convienent and decent. Important to note that at the resort bar and restaurant they do not sell any hard liquor, only beer and wine. In comparison to another 4 star Belizian resort we had just stayed at, we did feel it was not as luxurious but overall clean, beautiful views, and fun diving experiences available. "

"Basically, everything works at the Mayan. Staff are friendly, rooms are clean with well equipped kitchens, and while it’s not in the least bit luxurious, it’s very nice. Reaching for just a couple of small complaints, there’s a bad odor on the lane outside the only entry/exit, and you have to knock on the window at the entrance if you want the water turned on so that you can rinse the sand from your feet. But, hey, it’s San Pedro! You could pay a lot more and still not beat the convenience, comfort and friendly character of the Mayan Princess."

"I came to celebrate my birthday & had such a pleasant experience. All of the staff were extremely nice and accommodating. The room was clean and had everything I needed (water, microwave, fridge). The location is also walking distance from a lot of bars & restaurants. It wasn’t loud or crowded near the hotel which is a plus. I’m definitely coming back!"
