Federation Square is the main civic center and public space of Melbourne. Federation Square plays host to an extensive and eclectic program of events, avant-garde public artworks, and activities, such as early morning tai chi classes.

Back at ground level, explore the deconstructionist zinc, glass and sandstone architecture of The Atrium, The Edge theater and the Zinc function and event center. Catch a movie and discover the latest in gaming technology at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), then immerse yourself in Australian art at the National Gallery of Victoria’s Ian Potter Centre.

In the main open-air plaza, snap a photograph of yourself on the enormous television screen. This screen televises major sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup and the grand final of the Australian Football League (AFL), drawing thousands of sports fans to the square.

Fed Square has numerous bars, cafés and restaurants, and offers the biggest free Wi-Fi site in Melbourne. The square is located on the corner of Swanson and Flinders streets in downtown Melbourne, just across the road from the city’s busiest railway hub, Flinders Street Station. Loved staying here, all of the reception staff are absolutely lovely and the apartments are exactly as described (the only exception being that the bed was actually bigger than what was in the listing). Kitchen comes with everything 2 people would need for a short term stay. Secure underground parking was only $20 a night and the staff were all happy to accommodate any restocking requests with a smile. We were informed of the ongoing building construction before finalising the booking but with the balcony door & windows shut I could barely hear a thing, plus they wrap up at a reasonable hour so the evenings were nice and quiet.

This isn’t the property’s fault at all but the bins and skips were emptied on the street outside from 4:30am on Friday morning for over 90 minutes so that was the end of sleep for the night. The flat I had was nice. Not modern but that’s part of the charm. Lovely high ceilings. Great location for my morning Yarra River run.
