An absolutely magical experience, Yatusankan blew me away with the level of service and the beauty of the property. It was like staying in a museum--my wide and i remarked several times how much it felt like being inside the movie Spirited Away. Staying here was a special highlight of our trip and I hope to come back

If is a charming traditional Japanese inn in Takayama. It’s location is very convenient for walking to the train station and the main tourist area, but it is situated on a quiet side street. The staff was very friendly. The Japanese breakfast was excellent. We were given kimonos to wear. A very authentic experience.

Miyama Ouan offers an authentic Japanese cultural experience in beautiful high country/alpine location. Meals were of a variety of ingredients, delicious and always beautifully presented. Miyama Ouan rooms are very comfortable, warm, beautifully cleaned, with private and public onsen. The Hirayu location is in close proximity for bush walking, sight seeing, and to the cable car and bear ranch.

This ryokan is the best location in Matsumoto! Along with being beautiful and super clean, you literally walk out the front door and you’re on an idyllic street with restaurants and shops. It’s also walkable from the train station, and a short walk to the castle. If you’re looking for a traditional ryokan, this is it! The host also speaks great English and is very helpful if you need anything.

Ryokan Sansui is a peaceful retreat with beautiful mountain views, private outdoor onsen rooms, and the most dedicated, attentive and kind staff. We felt completely pampered by their service and hospitality. The meals were traditional omekase using local and seasonal ingredients. The food is clearly made with love, pride, and care. OK. I have done it. A straight 'full-marks' across the board. From the moment we checked in, this place has been a delight. Rooms are impeccable. Staff work hard to get you where you need to be. The documents supplied on what is offered in the area were tremendous. If you are here to relax in the summer or ski in the winter, this is a gem of a place to stay. From the very start to the very finish of our stay, my family and I felt so very welcomed. The hotel was extremely clean and orderly. This particular hotel is very cozy. The onsen bath/ ofuro was extremely relaxing, clean, and refreshing. The staff are above and beyond professional and extremely courteous. We will definitely come back to stay at this hotel. We highly recommend this hotel after a long day of hiking and sightseeing.

Well presented and maintained smallish hotel with massive teak furniture all around. Rooms clean and comfortable. Near Hirugano Kogen ski park (although not a walking distance if carrying skis and gear) is a bit off the tracks. After a day in the ski fields, spa at level 5 is a great way to end the day. We really enjoyed our stay at this Ryokan. I was pleasantly surprised at how calming and soothing it was. We used the public bath which was incredible. Our view outside our place was gorgeous mountains overlooking parts of the town. There was a slight odor in the bathroom of musk but it didn’t affect us too much. Everything else was very clean. If you like Japanese style of living without sacrificing western amenities , Then you will like this place. For example, your shoes are kept in a locker on the first floor and you must wear only socks in most areas even in the lobby and on the room floors above. Slippers are provided in the rooms. This is a hotel in the middle of mountain in Hirayu area. Above the cleanness, comfort level..... I stay there couple of days. The hotel staff pick me up to bus station in Hirayu (5 Km away). I saying that the hotel does not have any officially shuttle program. They are go out their way to help me catch up with the bus schedule so i do not waste my time of bus station for waiting. And most importantly i have enough time to visit Kamokochi national park. I really appreciate the altitude...

This is a lovely new hotel, very helpful friendly staff and one of the very best Onsens we’ve experienced in Japan (this is my third trip). Really fantastic- new, clean, three pools- outstanding. The hotel is 35 minutes S of Hakuba by car and an hour by shuttle bus, and the shuttle only runs to and from once per day so without a car you don’t have many options. Omachi, the nearest town is a fairly long walk. Recommend having a rental car if you stay here.

We had a 11/10 stay here in Takayama. The staff were so accommodating and kind. They really went above and beyond to make us comfortable. The location is great, with easy walking access everywhere you'd want to go. Amenities were also fabulous. Highly recommend staying here if you want a really treat. Something we will never forget.
