We went during Christmas vacation and it was very crowded, but it is a beautiful beach. Be aware of the rip currents. They are strong!

The town of Santa Teresa is a charming surprise in the middle of nowhere. The food is uncharacteristically worldly. But make no mistake, it is rustic and dirty since the main road is unpaved - it kicks up volumes of dirt when dry and a muddy mess when wet.

Popular places to visit

These are the Montezuma waterfalls-- and there are two more above this big one that you can jump off!
Only a 20-30 minute hike up to the top. Be sure let a local show you the longer way around to hike to the 2nd and 3rd falls rather than climb up waterfall itself.
To find them you just go behind the Mariposario bed and breakfast.
