Very neat location back in the jungle - a bit of a walk from the main city center, but gorgeous beach access and darling bungalows. The food was ok- Spa service was overpriced for the treatment I received.
Ylang Ylang embodies Costa Rica’s motto - “Pura Vida!” The property is stunning - right on the ocean and surrounded by lush tropical trees, plants and flowers. It is clean, quiet and extremely well-maintained with meticulous attention to detail throughout. The restaurant has incredible fresh, delicious meals. The staff are amazing - warm, friendly and very welcoming. We loved our stay at Ylang Ylang and hope to be able to return one day.
Ylang Ylang Beach Resort is the perfect place to enjoy a romantic getaway. If you need to pamper yourself, Nature provides it all. They also provide an oasis by the sea with good food, friendly service, and attention to detail.
This is a beautiful place to stay! The ocean is your view every morning for breakfast or yoga, the garden hammock provides the afternoon nap, and the pool works great for cocktails at dusk. Staff are competent and kind, the bungalows were simple and welcoming, and the menu offered lots of options. Lovely place for a family or couple.
Best resort stay of my life! The staff are wonderful people, that’s are patient and very attentive. The spa was devine and they even accommodated my pregnancy with a prenatal message. The vegan options for food are plentiful and all the vegan dishes we had were heavenly. The beach is quiet, clean, and private. We stayed in the beach front bungalow, and woke up to a view of the ocean every day which was very special. The other guests are friendly and respectful. The yoga classes were lovely and the studio space is insanely gorgeous with an ocean view and a cool breeze. This a little piece of paradise. Can’t wait to return!
Off the beaten path and amazing. Such a wonderful, quiet and peaceful place. Would stay here again and again.
Jungle, beach, pool, spa, short walk into town. What more could you ask for?
Definitely a place you must visit for the relaxing part of your trip.
This place is a dream! Stunning location, right on the shore of the Pacific in beautiful Montezuma. We dined, slept and explored with the rolling ocean waves ever present. Every aspect of this resort, from the staff to the location to the amenities, created a highly memorable trip for my family. There are too many highlights to name them all… all staff was friendly, accommodating and super helpful. Meals were fresh & delicious. Chef even prepared our freshly caught yellow fin tuna two ways for one of our dinners. The pool was refreshing, the grounds are well maintained and beautiful, straight out of a movie scene. Lodging was plenty spacious for my family of 4, cleaned spotless every day, and beds were comfy. Activities were easy to book on site, and tour operators were top notch, especially our day fishing and Curu wildlife guides. We enjoyed daily walks along the Pacific, with a river and the expansive Playa Grande within short distance from the resort. And the town of Montezuma is also within easy walking distance, offering several shops, eateries and other conveniences to explore. We had a 10/10 experience; while we were sad to leave, we have plentiful memories to last!
I would return in a heart beat. Ylang Ylang sits at the end of the town Montezuma. The town is small, open to tourism, has many stores/restaurants that take Visa cards. The beach resort is filled with incredible employees, accessible beach front property, pool side views of wildlife, spa access, boat tour access, and great food options! The property has opportunities for cozy cabins all the way to a house to yourself. The only part of our experience that was adventurous was getting there! We opted to fly into Tambor airport(bring cash) and received a taxi from ylang ylang to take us to the resort. Ylang ylang assisted in planning all excursions ahead of time so we didn’t have to worry about anything. It was a wonderful get away!
Ylang Ylang is such a beautiful hotel. We visited as a family of 4 with kids 12 and 16, only for 2 nights. We stayed in a bedroom with a loft. The room accommodated us well, although I wouldn’t be putting people who may need to frequent the bathroom during the night up in the loft, as the stairs are steep and narrow. Stay in a villa unit if you can as they look so romantic and have their own private beach access.
The grounds of the hotel are so lush and beautiful, full of flowers, plants and interesting trees. Wildlife abounds.
The staff were helpful and super friendly. They even helped booked my ferry to Puntarenas when it was telling me there was no space (there was). Dining area was romantic and had great views. Food was good.
The beach area is very scenic. You can walk to many really beautiful deserted beaches from the hotel in 10-30 mins. These beaches are in a national park and are big and deserted. Town is also 10 mins walk. Note you have to leave your car in a restaurant in town and get a ride to the hotel as it’s across beaches etc. I’d really love to come back again and spend more time here and do some tours. Very special.
I first stayed here 19 years ago for my sister’s wedding. The property has expanded a bit, to include an onsite restaurant, which is very good and breakfast and one dinner entree are included. The fresh and a decent variety. Typical spices in a dish have a distinctly Costa Rican twist.
The entire staff is helpful, attentive and courteous. The grounds are well maintained but still keep the jungle authenticity..just as it was years ago.
The area around the property is amazingly beautiful. An incredible beach hike (you can walk for hours back and forth) is located just past the last jungle king villa.
The Dome is stayed in was so lovely with a balcony and outdoor shower. Housekeeping comes everyday (not necessary really, but it seems the custom) and does a great job.
The pool is soothing and relaxing and so is the roar of the ocean waves to lull you to sleep at night or one of the numerous, well appointed hammocks or loungers around the property.
The monkeys are adorably mischievous..just beware..and so entertaining to observe.
If you are driving, you will not need a 4x4 if you follow Waze directions, google map took me over rivers😳. However, if you wish to park at the resort (as opposed to limited in town spaces by El Sano Banano) you will need to navigate sand for a short stretch so need a 4x4.
I look forward to getting back again before another 20 years!
The property is so very beautiful the staff was courteous, friendly and just a super great travel experience. I very highly recommend Yang Yang for your stay in Montezuma!
This property was just ok. The cabin I stayed in was kind of dumpy, and for the price, I did not think I got good value. They advetise to guests yoga in their jice yoga studio, but when u arrive they charge u $16/class. Hotels that charge $200 & up in costa rica should offer this complimentary.
We LOVED our stay at Ylang Ylang! We didn’t want to leave! It is a breathtaking property right off the beach! Meals were incredible, & we loved the morning yoga. We didn’t leave the resort the whole time because we loved it so much! Got to watch different species of monkeys at the pool! An incredible oasis! We would love to return one day!
This place is amazing. I've been coming here for over a decade.
When we check in we realized that we had left our passports and wallet at our last hotel that was 5 hours away. Henry at checkin arranged for it to be delivered to us the very next day for $60. It was crazy awesome.
The staff treats you like family.
Best place to horseback ride if your an experienced rider. No helmets and you get to run the horses on a beautiful beach to a waterfall.
Cant say more about the hotel and the surrounding. By far the best hotel in the peninsula. It's a must see place.
Just a beautiful resort! You have to drive on the beach to get there but if you have a 4wd or 4x4 it can be easily done. The monkeys are the beach were fun to watch, the sunrise was beautiful! Great pool as well!
The food was spectacular, the yoga studio was breathtaking and the cabins are glamping style and very comfortable. We also had a couples hot stone massage which was amazing! Highly recommend! Would definitely go back!
Beautiful location where the jungle meets the beach. Unique lodging. Good food. Great staff and lots of wildlife. This is a truly special place in a picturesque part of beautiful country.
Best place to stay in Montezuma. I've visited the town twice before, as a backpacker 20 years ago, and as a couple 15 years ago, but this time came with family and two kids plus mother-in-law, and splurged to stay in this hotel for first time. And it was worth it! Rooms are steps from beautiful beach with few or no people. Best beach in Montezuma is the one next to the hotel's in the direction of town, plus there's another "secret" beach 5 minutes walk in the other direction (with waterfalls, cairn garden). Grounds of hotel impeccable. Breakfast and dinner are included in a beautiful little restaurant on site, and the food is amazing - you won't want to go elsewhere. Bar area at restaurant is great hangout spot, with fantastic list of tropical drinks. Pool is small-is but good, very tropical and close to beach and restaurant. I'm not a yoga person, but we got up at 8am one day to do the session in the studio above restaurant, with beautiful views of ocean, and it was great way to start the day! Animals: saw multiple kinds of iguanas (including at restaurant and pool), bats hanging outside our room, monkeys high in trees, exotic insects, and more. We stayed in a family suite, kids enjoyed the loft with views of the ocean, and hammocks in front. About 10 minutes walk into town. Only slight pain was having to park our car in town by 6pm and take hotel 4x4 from there, but not too big of a deal. Very peaceful and beautiful end to our Costa Rica trip, and I would love to go back.
Truly a gem on the beach yet felt deep in the jungle. Staff was super nice. I would say this place isn’t for everyone. It’s very rustic and meant for a solitary experience without a whole lot around. With that said, it’s truly like being in the jungle. Howler monkeys wake you up in the morning. Bugs and wildlife are everywhere. The beach is beautiful but it’s mainly a shore break so not super good for kids. Hike 20 min away to playa grande and you’ll score a great beach for the fam. Beautiful hike getting there. The town in small with a Rasta/roots feel to it. Highly recommended for couples and seclusion but not so much for small kids. You’ll need a 4x4 to drive in as you drive on the beach to get there. If not, they provide a shuttle truck. Totally walkable to the town. Staff is awesome. The waitress Patricia is a gem!! Truly a pure vida vibe!
