"It is always a pleasure returning to Mauna Kea. With the recent renovations now complete, the hotel is more beautiful than ever and remains my daughter's favorite vacation destination. The breakfast buffet is outstanding, offering an excellent selection of food, and the staff is always warm, welcoming, and attentive. Waking up to the breathtaking view of the beach and the crystal clear ocean is an experience that is truly hard to find anywhere else. We had another wonderful stay and are already looking forward to returning next summer."

"The beach is the best. Just about all negative aspects of the property are measured against the gorgeous water and wonderful beach. The room was a bit dated. Carpet looked tired, small roaches in bathroom sink area. The fat foam pillows are uncomfortable. They also put us in a room for disabled individuals but we were too tired to argue after three flights and a long rental drive at that point. The buffet is very good and staff are excellent. We don’t spend a lot of time in the room so no big deal in the room critique. BUT at 1k per day for a suite, it’s worth mentioning the rooms look tired."

"This property was perfect for my family. Not only was the house spacious, but the back yard was also huge. My children enjoyed playing in the yard, watching the stream at the edge of the yard, and visiting the neighbor's horse! Having access to the laundry was very helpful for us. We had everything that we needed in the house. Everything was clean. Communicating with our host was easy. Check-in directions were easy to follow."

"Catrinka’s piece of heaven is so peaceful and private. It was the perfect hub for the end of our adventures each day whether we went to the beach, parks, shopping, or out for a sunset drive. The house was immaculate and so comfortable. We hope to return soon. Thank you for a memorable stay in paradise. I’ll never forget the vastness of the stars and the beauty of the scenery."

"We stayed in this peaceful and beautiful place for just one night, and would gladly stay again on our next trip to the Big Island. Beds were so comfy, hosts were wonderful, and we woke up to a full rainbow practically on the roof in front of us! Thank you for a great stay!"

"Surely one of the most amazing staycations ever! Was lucky enough that my family was able to stay several nights in both homes and absolutely everything about these beautiful homes was fantastic Photos on the VRBO site definitely did not do justice to this jewel in Waimea. Well stocked, super comfortable, luxurious bedding, tons of towels, spotless, extremely well maintained inside and out. Everything we needed was available, right down to the shower chair and walker for my 98 year old mother. We thoroughly enjoyed the peacefulness of the area, the availability of the outdoor bbq grills, and the lanais. Oh the lanais were awesome. The only downside of this property was that we had to leave after 5 days and return to reality!Thank you, Laura, for offering so much to make sure our stay would be a great one. It sure was. The special care and attention you and your team gave was evident in everything! Thank you for welcoming us so wonderfully and lending to a most memorable experience!"

"Perfect stay! Beautiful home. There was extra laundry soap, paper towels, sunscreen, and tons of coffee k-cups. You really don’t need to go to the grocery specifically for these items. Tons of beach towels, bath towels, hand towels, dish towels, wash cloths etc. Comfortable beds. Nice seating on the deck. Cushions are in the garage. Appreciated having a dehumidifier! It was so humid when we visited. Really could not think of anyway to improve this listing. The best VRBO/Air B&B we have EVER stayed at. Tip: In the evenings, set the fans in front of the screened windows and the house will cool quickly. We were there in June. We were able to drive the entire island. No regrets with The Horse House."
