"The staff was so friendly and helpful! Communication was superb! The location was great. There were three restaurants within a short walk and we found free parking reasonably close. We arrived late due to car trouble, but the staff gave us great directions with a video. We had to carry bags a ways including some stairs, but staying in the Sassi was worth it."

Great location to get from car park to hotel, store luggage then explore Matera on foot. (We saw a number of guests struggling up and down stairs in the Ild Town with large bags.)
Hotel was “luxury level” clean!! And very well appointed!!

Our room was done very beautifully and artistically and overlooked the Sassi Barisano for a great view. The bathroom is American sized and the room contained a large closet and cute balcony. It sits on a main piazza just a couple minutes to any of the major sites. Mimmo was an excellent host and even if we said the room didn’t need to be cleaned since we were staying only two nights, he had it cleaned anyway. We enjoyed our stay!

I stayed on short notice at Casale di Maria and I couldn't have been happier with my choice. The room was very charming and unique - in one of the historic sassi (cave hewn into the rocks) but with all the modern amenities you could wish for.
I had parked a long way away but Walter, the owner, gave me a ride to my car and guided me to a parking spot near the house where I could park without getting a ticket till the next morning. Domenica, who manages the property day-to-day, stayed in online...

I rarely leave reviews, however I wanted to brag on Le Tre Vie. Simona was amazing and so so so helpful. We had an amazing stay at the Cenobio Hotel! It can be a bit tricky to find if it's your first time in Matera, and you can't drive directly to the hotel. Plus, there are some steps to navigate both downhill and uphill. Knowing this from other reviews, we contacted the hotel before our arrival. They arranged a shuttle from the car park, which made things super easy for us. I highly recommend doing this if you're planning to stay here. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful, making us feel...

Matera is a unique town and this hotel captures the special qualities. Each room is different and because it is part of the cave infrastructure of the town, some rooms are dark. I'd ask for a room with widows and terrace if going back.
