Great great great!!! This ryokan is really wonderful! The owners are very nice and friendly. Clean and comfortable Japanese style room. Authentic property. Really recommended
An absolute highlight of our Japan trip. I would highly recommend staying here. The rooms, the inn and the hosts were amazing. I’d also recommend getting breakfast for the full Japanese experience. Thank you so much for an amazing stay
The owners were some of the most friendly, welcoming people I have met. Their English was great and I was able to understand them completely! The property is beautiful and a perfect option if you’re looking for a traditional stay. I would definitely stay again next time I’m in Kyoto.
This place was freaking amazing! The owners were simply amazing, they were super attentive and always was so happy to see us. Book this if you want to stay in a traditional hotel. There is only 3 rooms here, and there is a beautiful pond in the middle of the hotel. Also, this place has been here for MANY years and through 3 generations. Book a breakfast and a dinner, and you wont be sorry. I will be back if I come back to Kyoto!
We can’t say enough about how exceptional this experience was for us. The family that own and operate the ryokan were unbelievably friendly and felt so welcoming. Everything screamed traditional, from the kimonos we were given to wear during our stay, to the unique Japanese breakfast we were given every morning that was as delicious as it was healthy. If you are looking for a way to experience real japan, then look no further.
My husband and I had a lovely 3-night stay. It was exactly the traditional experience I hoped to have. Breakfast was delicious -- the best miso soup I've ever had! The owners were very nice and accommodating. The wife let me practice my beginner Japanese with her and was very patient. The only downside was it was hard to get a time slot for the hot bath in the evening. We would definitely stay here again.
If we could, we would've give the place 10 out of 5 stars!!!
We planned to experience authentic Japanese hospitality and we received that and so much more! The owners are the most amazing people who made us feel at home (they'd say "welcome home" every time we came back from exploring Kyoto).
The house is the most beautiful place we ever stayed at, and even though there were other guests staying, we felt we were the only ones with the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners. Every time we left the room, when we came back it was tidied up and fresh green tea was waiting for us on the table.
Yes, there are rules the owners ask you to observe, but so every single hotel in the world has them (and these were made very clear before we booked and on arrival).
It's a shame we only stayed 2 nights, as we could've stayed there for weeks. It was tranquil and beautiful. We were having Japanese style breakfast with a view of a stunning Japanese style garden and a pond with Koi fish.
The room (apartment) we stayed in was spacious, comfortable, clean and really quiet.
The ryokan is a short walk from Kyoto station, Schichijo station and in about 20 minutes you can walk to Gion. There are plenty of buses few minutes walk from Kikokuso as well.
Thank you for making our stay such an amazing experience and for making us feel at home. We will definitely stay again, if we visit Japan in the future.
Genuine authentic japanese ryokan that is owned by a husband and wife couple who have worked it for 3 generations. Warm reception and customer service combined with excellent food and a quiet comfortable atmosphere. Cant recommend enough.
Wonderful place to stay! The owners couldn’t be nicer and between the proximity to the station and the balance between traditional & modern, this was a perfect place to call home on our trip
The hosts here are delightful. The place is lovely and traditional. Loved my evening private baths after long days of walking.
My only comment is if you need the toilet during the night ask if there is a downstairs room as that’s where it’s located.
We had an excellent stay. The family was so wonderful. They took great care of us and were so sweet. Breakfast was delicious. The ryokan was beautiful and felt very traditional. Would highly recommend!
