First experience of a traditional Japanese room and I really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and helpful and the traditional breakfast was tasty (except for one exception!). Would recommend trying it at least for 1 night
It was a great stay at Towa. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Our only problem was the location was very hard to find. Cab drivers find it difficult to find it that they have to call the hotel for directions. I recommend getting the hotel’s phone number before you arrive.
Not sure what I expected, but on reflection, the ryokan is exactly what it says it is. The photos do it justice. We didn't get our welcome tea, which was disappointing, there were a few people in the public area so maybe they were too busy. We had wanted to try Kaiseki style, and although I haven't had it elsewhere the quality of the food was good, it wasn't to our style, and nowhere near enough. We had the massage, I likes it, my partner didn't. The public baths were a bit smelly for my liking, and grey and dingy, so I didn't use them.
The highlight for me was breakfast, it was delicious and plenty of it. In terms of recommendations would not stay there again, and not sure if I would do ryokan style again at all. Futon (or thick doona) is a novelty, but having nowhere to sit in the room wasn't our style, and my partner struggled with sitting on the floor as he has a bad back. At breakfast they gave him a floor seat with a back, would have been good to have been offered that at dinner.
