With a large elevation change and great facilities, this ski and snowboarding resort is considered one of the best in Western North America.

Ascending the road to Big White Ski Resort, you’ll be struck at the wind-whipped snow cornices found throughout the area. In some parts, an unusually high champagne powder snowfall carpets the trees, lending them a stocky appearance which has inspired the term “snow ghosts.” Explore over 2,765 acres (1,147 hectares) in one of the largest skiable terrains in British Columbia. Enjoy the day on the slopes and the remarkable sights.

People come to Big White primarily for its excellent downhill skiing, with 2,550 feet (777 meters) of elevation change. Winding cruisers, steep bumps and expert glades are all here. One of the longest of its kind, the Around the World Ski Route is 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) long.

Try more activities than simply downhill skiing. Traverse the carefully planned cross-country terrains. Drop your pick into the top of the ice-climbing wall. Race laps around the skating rink. Give your feet a rest and tour the slopes on a snowmobile. Unbuckle your gear and explore the base village’s cafés, restaurants and shopping.

Although Big White is a dream for intermediate and advanced skiers, it also has trails and resources for novices. The resort takes pride in being family friendly, with an excellent ski school and distinguished kids program. Rent gear on-site and take lessons with friendly and knowledgeable instructors who will have you ready for the chairlift in hours.

Dining and lodging options fit many budgets. Stay warm in the cozy wood interiors of your own condominium or on-mountain at a range of hotels and motels. When you’re feeling hungry, order a pizza to be delivered. Feast on local game or perfectly aged beef at a local steakhouse.

Big White Ski Resort is open for winter sports from late November to mid-April. Return for summer hiking and sightseeing from July through September. To get here, fly less than an hour from Vancouver or Calgary. Because restaurants and lodging in Big White are ski-to/ski-from, you don’t need a car. You’ll need only your skis or snowboard and your sense of adventure.
