"For my overnight trip to Nagano, my focus had always been to visit Togakushi Shrine for the giant cedar trees and Jigokudani Yaen Koen for the snow monkeys. This meant that I had to find lodging that was within a reasonable drive from both locations as one was west of Nagano and the other east. As I favored more of visiting Jigokudani Yaen Koen when there are lesser crowds, which meant early morning hours when the park just opens (keep in mind it takes 45 minutes to hike up to the park), I...

"Fujisan was great. Our car couldn’t make it to the inn. Fuji came down the hill in a snowstorm to pick us up, he called ahead to make sure the local restaurant stayed open for us as well. Breakfasts were excellent, the rooms were large by ryokan standards and very clean. The Hanabun is a vintage gem tucked deep in the Myoko Mountains. "
