Overflowing with glamor, glitz, millennia of history and many other appealing features, this is one of the world’s most iconic vacation destinations.

Capri starts at the ferry dock, where open-top limousines wait to take you up the steep hillside to the town. Capri Town itself is awash in luxury stores and restaurants populated with impeccably dressed patrons. Explore imperial Roman villas, gardens and nature trails that take full advantage of the island’s natural splendor.

At Marina Grande take a limousine or the funicular up to Capri Town. Drop off your bags and head back out to the villas, which grow increasingly crowded as the day goes on. Start at Villa Jovis, the largest of the villas of Roman Emperor Tiberius, perched on top of cliffs said to be where he pushed off people who displeased him. Explore the incredible curiosity collections at the Villa San Michele, built in the 1920s by an eccentric Swedish doctor.

Additional impressive architecture is displayed at the Villa Lysis. See the stunning mosaic floor of Chiesa di San Michele in Anacapri.

Enjoy nature in the famous Blue Grotto and the neighboring, less crowded, Green Grotto. Ride the funicular to the top of Mount Solaro for views of Naples and Vesuvius. As the evening sets in, relax in the Piazzetta with a glass of sparkling wine and one of the island’s Caprese salads to watch the nighttime splendor of the island.

Capri has been a vacation destination for centuries, so it has well-developed infrastructure for accessing the island and getting around. Take a ferry or a hydrofoil from Naples or Sorrento. The ferry ride is about 1.5 hours, and the hydrofoil takes about 45 minutes. Funiculars connect the Marina Grande, the main ferry dock, to Capri Town itself. Regular bus services connect Capri and Anacapri. Use the taxis always available on the streets.

Especially in summer, Capri can get extremely hot, so bring adequate water and sun protection for any outdoor excursions.

Though surrounded by water, Capri has few beaches, so bathe at the Bagni di Tiberio, amid the ruins of an ancient villa.

It was expensive. The blue grotto was more expensive then you think. We paid 18.00 euros for the boat trip, then 15.00 euros to go into the grotto, then the row boat man demanded a 10.00 euro tip!!!
