Rooms are pretty old but overall comfortable

One of the iconic hotels in all of Japan. If you’re in Japan and want to explore the Hakone area, you have to stay here. The service is impeccable, the hotel has 140+ years of history, and the dining choices are superb. Well worth the stay. And did I mention the staff? They welcomed me back (I had stayed years before) as if I were an honored guest. That little item made my day. I will return someday.

Beautiful setting, spa, and food.

The Hilton has myriad of requirements for using the pool and hot springs. It's not possible just to walk into the pool area and start using it. We couldn't even see the pool because we were not appropriately attired, meaning we weren't wearing swimming clothes. The rooms are small and so are the bathroom and enclosed toilet.

Great staying experience. Staff provides very good service. Every staff I interacted with spoke good English. The indoor and outdoor onsen make our experience even better. Food is good quality though a little expensive. Overall, it’s worth the money spent.
