Everything was good. Only complaint is the front desk staff did not tell us there was a complementary lounge room on the second floor for guests waiting to check in or waiting for shuttle to the airport. Front desk check in staff knew we were early and waiting to check in and nobody said anything, even when I asked if our room was ready.

I recently stayed at the Royal Kona Resort in Kona, Hawaii. The location and amenities definitely deserve a 5-star rating. The oceanfront views are absolutely beautiful, the saltwater lagoon and pool area are great, and the property has that classic Hawaiian resort feel. Being able to walk right into town for restaurants and shops is also a huge plus.
Unfortunately, the cleanliness and service did not match the amazing setting. Our room and some of the common areas didn’t seem as clean or well maintained as expected, which took away from the experience. In addition, several interactions with staff felt unfriendly and unwelcoming.
Overall, the Royal Kona has incredible potential because of its location and amenities, but improvements in housekeeping and customer service would make a big difference in the overall guest experience.
