Ski and snowboard down powdery slopes, stay in an igloo and experience panoramic views over the Bavarian alps at this resort located on Germany’s highest glacier.

Experience Germany’s highest peak at Zugspitze, a ski resort located on a beautiful glacier. The mountain’s high altitude, reaching 9,718 feet (2,962 meters) above sea level, ensures excellent snow coverage for powder-hungry skiers.

Ski or board down Zugspitze’s gorgeous slopes, which offer a range of difficulty levels. Explore over 12 miles (20 kilometers) of trails before warming up with a hot beverage at a mountainside café.

Take an exhilarating slide down the mountain on specialized toboggan runs. Zip down the Schneefernerkopf sledding slope or cruise through the White Valley and the Sonnekar toboggan runs.

Ride to the top station of the Zugspitze for a stunning 360-degree panorama of the Bavarian Alps. These extensive views allow you to see over 400 mountain peaks in four different countries: Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Use digital telescopes to inspect the highest mountain in the Eastern Alps, Piz Bernina, which rises 13,284 feet (4,049 meters) above sea level.

Take a guided snowshoe tour to enjoy the peaceful terrain. Alternatively, experience the alpine landscape from all sides with a Zugspitze round trip. Ride the cog wheel train to gorgeous Lake Eibsee before taking a cable car, with scenic views of both the lake below and the Zugspitze peak above. Afterward, descend to your origin point via a cogwheel train. Enjoy the splendid views and fascinating rides year-round, whether you are skiing or hiking or just sightseeing.

Savor delectable cuisine at mountaintop restaurants, with complimentary views of the alpine surroundings. Try some of Germany’s culinary delights, including sausage and strudel at Gipfelalm or Panorama 2962. Relax with a Bavarian beer on a deck chair in the sun on the snow-covered slope.

Visit the intriguing igloo village, a settlement crafted from snow in the center of the resort. Stay a night in one of 20 snow houses, warmed by body heat and sheepskin sleeping bags.

Reach Zugspitze easily by car or train from Munich and Innsbruck. Travel between the resort and accommodations in Garmisch-Partenkirchen using the mountain railways of Bayerische Zugspitzbahn. The ski season offers natural snow for about 6 months each year.

Don't be in a rush taking the train back down. Waits about 5 minutes at a couple stops but still well worth the trip for sight seeing.

Ride the Cable Car to the top if up and running. Takes you right to the top in about 15 minutes. Tickets are about $67.00 USD per adult. The views were incredible.

For the best views, go as early in the day as possible before the haze and clouds start to form. Bring a light jacket with you!

It was overcast with drizzle in the morning, but by the time we had reached the top, the sun had come out and it was wonderful!!
