The staff was lovely and the room quite comfortable, by Western standards for a Japanese room (although the futons were by far the hardest and most uncomfortable of the three ryokans we visited). "A highlght from our trip. If you can, definitely stay here at least one night, instead of doing a day-trip to Nara (more time if you can spare it!) The hotel and staff are just fantastic. This gives you an idea of what you can expect from a hotel that receives foreign and local dignitaries and heads of state. Walking distance from the park/ landmarks and also restaurants and shopping nearby. The room itself was ample (more than you will probably see in your whole stay in Japan) with modern rooms incorporated into a fantastic historic building. "
