The Francis Marion Hotel

"We loved our stay from the time we entered the doors to the time we left. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We ate dinner one night and had breakfast at the Swamp Fox restaurant on premise and the food was delicious. We had the breakfast buffet and the fruit was amazing. Each evening there was a piano player playing music in the lobby that enriched the ambiance. The lobby was gorgeous and makes you feel like you were living in the 1920s. The location is close to shopping, parks, coffee shops, museums, and a short walk to the French Quarters. "

"The property was beautiful. The staff was welcoming, kind, and helpful. I appreciated the little touches that made a big impact, like the daily complimentary happy hour in the library, the complimentary soda, juice, bottled still and sparkling water, pimento cheese, and a daily morning picnic basket with breakfast fare. Staff was also available to shuttle you around town in their hotel jeep! Many nice little touches to make our stay lovely. I highly recommend."

"First of all, the amenities were above and beyond what we expected, having breakfast brought to our room each day, having wine and cheese in the afternoon before dinner and then milk and cookies at night. Coffee and tea, plus water, iced tea, lemonade and candy available 24 hrs per day was fantastic. at The staff was amazing and very helpful. The room was very nice. Even had an outdoor terrace. Would definitely recommend this place for any vacationers!!!"

"Everything was fabulous!!! Only complaint was that we are gold status and were suppose to receive a room upgrade. Our travel partners received the upgraded king with fireplace and are not gold status and we did not, A little disappointing but the stay was still great ! I did ask about this but was told all the rooms are different ."

"The staff and the rooms were amazing. The renovation is beautiful. However, we were disappointed to learn that the shops inside the hotel won’t be there anymore, and we missed the coffee shop that used to be there as well. We could still get out of the hotel and onto King Street while we were there, but were no longer able to walk through any shops to get out directly onto Meeting Street. I’m sure they have some great renovations for the space though. Still a great stay!"

"The location of this hotel is excellent and one of its biggest strengths. It is very centrally located, making it easy to walk to restaurants, shops, and attractions without needing a car. However parking is very expensive. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the rooms are thoughtfully designed with a modern, stylish aesthetic. The café, restaurant, and common areas are equally stunning and create a welcoming atmosphere throughout the property. I especially appreciated the water, coffee, and ice stations on each floor, which were always clean, well-stocked, and a very thoughtful touch for guests. That said, there were a couple of drawbacks to our stay. None of the room windows open, which made the space feel a bit stuffy, and unfortunately our room had a noticeable moldy smell that never fully went away during our visit. Overall, this is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location with great amenities and attention to detail. Addressing the air quality and odor issues would make the experience even better."

Every member of the staff makes you feel like a truly valued guest rather than just another reservation. The location is perfect for experiencing Charleston, but the hotel itself is so beautiful and comfortable that you may never want to leave. The rooftop terrace, exceptional hospitality, and attention to even the smallest details create an experience that feels both sophisticated and personal. I have stayed at many wonderful hotels, but The Loutrel stands in a class of its own. It is not simply the best hotel in Charleston, it may very well be the best hotel in America. An unforgettable five-star experience from beginning to end."
