"This is an older style hotel but our room was clean, comfortable and relatively modern. I liked the old-school charm of breezeways, a ceiling fan, a balcony and a lobby with comfortable furniture and reading material. We had no problems with parking or security. There's a beach next door and several restaurants and a convenience store within a few minutes walk. I would definitely stay here again."
"The room was clean but felt old and kind of retro to a Howard Johnson's - for the price we felt it was more of a 2-3 star experience. Everything in the front of the hotel is super cute and nice- we stayed in the back and though the room was clean the sink bath etc were clean but not in the best shape- could see water damage etc. the staff were super nice. But for the price I would stay elsewhere. Air conditioning available but off when you arrive- same for mini fridge. We arrived in the rain and it was kind of damp and felt dingy. Lighting was good in the bathroom
And sheets towels very clean.
There is an additional 29$ amenity fee for filtered water. Poor coffee quality etc for that price. We parked on the street and she told us parking was part of the amenity fee."
"Welcome letter needs to be updated. There was no room with a TV and the "larger one" was the smallest TV I've seen in 20 years. Plus, it was not cable, just Roku. Couldn't watch local news. Missed the volcano eruption.Walked around the house twice looking for green door. Scrolled down some on my laptop and went in through garage door and there it was. Letter was not wrong, just out of order. When told not to push on gate, assumed it was electric and that meant not to force it. Again, not incorrect, just a little misleading because you do have to push it open, just not like a hinged gate.If I exhaust trips to all the other islands, I would stay here again. The pool was awesome and there was something oddly satisfying about swimming under the bridge. The kitchen had enough hardware to cook a meal in different pots every night for a month. Lots of cutlery and glasses and dishes."
"Beautiful setting! 4 Mile Scenic Dr was located across the street. Unit was clean and decor was lovely. The “sleep number” bed was set to default to 100 which made it rock hard. Owner does mention that info but we had not read that part yet so 1st night was a little rough till we reset the bed to 5. Love the landscaping and the Horse and Donkeys on the property. What we did not realize until we checked in was that the cooking area was located to the side of the unit on the outside and the area for rinsing and cleaning cookware was behind a gate on the side of the property behind the main house. Very inconvenient for food prep, cooking and cleaning. Not really a “functional” kitchen set up.
Other than that, beautiful property, well appointed, good location for DT but Volcanoes Ntl Park is an hour each way."
"My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed coming back to this home each night after exploring the island. The location private and great for walking to Akaka Falls and the little fruit stand. The house felt spacious and comfortable. It was clear the house was built with care as my husband commented on how well done the construction appeared. We had everything we needed in terms of kitchen items, soap supplies, laundry facilities, etc. We had a couple geckos that would come and go upstairs once in a while, but they were comical to watch. It was a great location to explore both North and South ends of the island for day trips. Hilo was an easy drive away for supplies and Honumu offered a couple close by shops including The Hive where we got delicious sandwiches. Overall I would recommend this property and stay here again."
"This was amazing! Great staff, great location AND there's even a swimming hole (5 min walk, if that) with a waterfall! I've never stayed in a shared house before, but this one has spoiled me! It's close enough to be able to drive to all the good tourist spots. Oh, and hopefully you're there for the "big" farmers market on Saturdays. If I get back to the Big Island I'll be coming back here! Thank you for the great time!"
