"All the staff was great, clean, most of the food was good"

"I adore this hotel. What you receive at the price point is extremely generous. While it's on the highway and there is road noise, this kind of blends into the charm. The rooftop pool cannot be beat, the buffet breakfast is excellent and the rooms are clean, simple and well appointed. The hotel is in a greet neighbourhood with lots of restaurants. That said there are a couple of downsides. First, there are automated lights on each balcony that don't turn off until midnight. Yes there are ample window coverings. This means, however, that if you're like me and are early to bed and enjoy sleeping with your windows open, you just can't. Yes, the hotel wants to look cute from the road. This being their priority over guest comfort gets under my skin a bit. Second, the staff are hit or miss. We had some extremely frustrating encounters with the day manager who wouldn't move us to the other side of the hotel. We could clearly see the hotel wants empty and in Feb and Mar there is a carnival that is at times extraordinarily loud with a man yelling into a microphone. We have stayed at the Mio regularly and my travel companion is a travel agent who regularly books clients there. He didn't care and refused to find us a solution despite the hotel being empty. The breakfast service is also hit or miss. There were days we weren't offered coffee or eggs. Third- if you are staying in a partial view room or whatever they're called note there is a carnival Feb/Mar which is very disruptive. "

"Pools were clean and good. Challenge was that many people had cancelled so they then closed most of the restaurants daily. There would be maybe two plus a buffet open and if you missed the one you wanted then you had to go to the same one's over and over. One night we tried to go to the French restaurant but was refused for dress. Went back to the room and ordered room service - worst food every had and we sent the entire meal back. Pizza was half cooked and half raw dough. Had Hummus and pita and they sent two small wedges of pita so hard they were impossible to eat. Told the manager the next day and they promised to do something but of course they didn't. Also noting that we paid a lot of money for what we thought was the Secrets service and adults only environment. Many nights the only food was on the family Dreams side - not what we paid for. The other issue was that outside of the airport we had never experienced vulture time share sales experiences like this before. It never ended through the whole week as they constantly hounded us and tried to find some wedge to give us something free so we would talk to them. Just put a very bad feel on an already unfortunate experience. Will never go to a Secrets again and we certainly know we paid a lot of dollars for nothing. Staff were great and very friendly and helpful outside of the time share sales staff. "

"Great place for a couple days, area is excellent if your wanting the Malecon, Romantic Xone all very walkable. Breakfast is not to my liking. Same food choices everyday and small. Orange juice is not nice. Staff were not able to keep up so pretty much go in and figure it out especially if you want coffee. I helped myself and just found what I needed. Cleaning ladies were fantastic. Pool is smaller but kept clean and worked for us. Beachfront is very rocky but hey Mother Nature! Worth paying for the oceanfront rooms. "
