Loved the location of this hotel. Beautiful view of the castle. We were within walking distance of downtown but a little off the main street so it was a bit quieter. The hotel had a really nice traditional breakfast every morning. The staff was super helpful and polite. Very very helpful in finding things around Kumamoto. I really enjoyed my time in Kumamoto. The Hamilton is a unique fusion of British Stately Home turned Inn, and Japanese hot spring spa. It sits on the steep side of a hill, making the entry challenging for those with mobility limitations. Once inside, however, the building is fitted with ramps and an elevator. Staff are alert for arrivals, come to the parking lot to help position the car and bring your luggage inside. Short 10mins taxi ride from Kumamoto Train station, costs around 10USD for the taxi ride. Within walking distance to Kumamoto Castle, if walking is not your thing, you can take a taxi to the entrance of Josaien, which will lead you to the entrance of Kumamoto Castle as well. The taxi ride was around 5mins, and cost less than 6USD. It is also a short 10mins walk to Tsuruya Departmental Store, and plenty of cute shops in the nearby shopping arcade as well. Great location.
