This was the most stressful stay I have ever had across vacation rental platforms. There was a situation where the original listing I had rented flooded a few days before I got to Munich and the host offered me a refund or alternative housing. Given I had already made plans and reservations for Oktoberfest, I couldn't cancel. I trusted that the host had an alternative rental accommodation, but that wasn't the case. The days before arriving to Munich, the communication from the host was sparse. He confirmed the alternative address just 4 hours before check-in so for days I wasn't sure if I even had a place to stay. When I arrived at the location for checkin, he was still cleaning it. The individual he had helping him left 25 minutes after official checkin time. Once I got settled in, it was clear that this was not an alternative rental accommodation, but the host's primary residence. It very much looked and felt like someone was living there. From that moment, the entire stay felt uncomfortable. I was afraid I was never completely alone in the apartmet. He gave no instructions and was unresponsive from the start so I knew there was no point in asking. I wish he had been honest that there was never an alternative accomodation or that this accomodation would have been HIS house. I would have easily asked for a refund or figured something else out then deal with what ended up being the most stressful rental I have ever experienced after 10 years of using these platforms.
