When this mountain’s very long ski season ends, great mountain biking begins. Enjoy the fresh air, beautiful scenery and fun events year-round.

The high peaks in the Sierra Nevada Mountains capture plenty of natural snowfall, giving Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort a very long season, usually starting in November and continuing through June or even July. Enjoy sunshine on average 300 days a year as you ski over 3,500 acres (1,400 hectares) of snowy terrain or bike on 80 miles (130 kilometers) of trails. Find plenty of family fun off the mountain too.

Mammoth Mountain lives up to its name, with an 11,053-foot (3,506-meter) peak and 3,100 feet (940 meters) of vertical drop. Whatever your skiing or boarding ability, find runs you like among the more than 150 named trails. Kick off your downhill skis and try snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling or take a SnowCat tour for effortless views of glorious mountains.

When most of the snow has melted, trails reopen for mountain biking. Join in or watch competitive races with bikers speeding over bumps, turning around trees and flying into the air as they barrel down exciting trails. Enjoy events including September’s 102-mile (164-kilometer) Gran Fondo, Kamikaze Bike Games and Bike Park Rider Appreciation Day.

Activities continue throughout the year. Autumn is glorious for fly fishing and viewing the changing colors of the trees. Try for a prize in a fishing derby or create next year’s calendar with photos of the glorious views. The mountain hosts a haunted Halloween, fun for kids and adults, and an annual Thanksgiving celebration.

Winter brings holiday parties and the bright Night of Lights in December and competitive skiing and boarding in January. Have fun dancing with the mascots, Woolly, Huck, Goldie and Bucky. Try night tubing and compete on multiple terrain parks and halfpipes.

Mammoth Mountain has the highest ski summit in California, offering views of alpine peaks and lakes, possibly as far as the crags of Yosemite National Park to the west. Fly into Mammoth Yosemite Airport, less than a 30-minute drive from the resort.

Ski and bike some of California’s best terrain, meditate on the mountaintop or hike the hills of Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort for your choice of relaxing or exciting vacation.

Crowded on Christmas eve , huge place for skiers. Poor cafeteria bad food with outrageous prices. I like the atmosphere on June mountain , but am a non skier and I guess for skiers Mammoth Mountain is a greater ski area. Parking miserable at mammoth.

The shuttle was very punctual to take us to CAnyon Lodge but we waited forever at the end of the day to catch a ride back. Finally gave up and took the Gondola home. It was fine. Easy walk back up to the condo... and you can store your skis and poles at the village gondola overnight.

2/5 - Disappointing
