"NO TATTOOS. Is the first sign you see when checking in. Perhaps if you have a small discrete tattoo, they will still permit you to use their hot-baths on site. Ideal for couples, seniors, less so for families with children. The beds were quite hard. The in-room food service was very good, as was the breakfast buffet. Both indoor and outdoor onsen was very nice, with the outdoor one having a nice view of Gifu Castle. "

"We loved our time in Gifu! The ryokan was in a lovely quiet part of Gifu surrounded front and back by parks. The staff spoke a little English and we even less Japanese but it didn’t matter- they were so helpful and kind and so friendly -they even did our laundry and drove us to the train station as part of the service!!! There is an onsen - on the top floor. Everything very clean and old world traditional. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend. "

"There was an exceptional housekeeper (Ms. Yamashita) making the room with a personalized touch; one yukata set on the bed I slept and new glasses on coasters where I used on the desk instead of putting all original places. This touch would make visitors special (probably old-school) but it won't be noticed unless you stay a couple of nights there."

"The hotel offers great value - large room, comfortable bed, spacious bathroom - and an excellent location with good access to the highway entry / exit. My only gripe - as an expat living in Japan - was being asked to have a copy made of my ID; something (unfortunately) required of visitors to Japan, but not expats living here. This is a big one to my mind - personal details like this shouldn't be required / kept by the hotel for any purpose, especially since they don't require this of...
