The COVID-19 outbreak may have changed how we travel, but it hasn't deterred our love of exploring. Here are some tips on how to navigate the new challenges of traveling:

• Understand what rules and restrictions apply to both your destination and origin. You may not be able to travel depending on local circumstances, so check in advance.
• When you go through airport checkpoints, do not remove your face mask. You will be asked to briefly lower it to verify your identity. Anyone refusing to wear a mask may face civil penalties and may also be escorted from the building.
• Rather than handing a TSA agent your boarding pass, place it straight on the scanner yourself. After that, hold it up for inspection.
• You're permitted to take one container of hand sanitizer up to 12 oz (350 ml) in your hand luggage. This will need to be taken out for X-ray screening.
• Empty your personal items from your pocket, like your phone and wallet, and place them in your carry-on instead of the bins. This will reduce handling during screening.
• Separate any food you have for screening. Putting it in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA officer to handle and inspect your belongings.
