"Great cottage that didn’t get too hot during the summer heat wave as it was the ground floor of a multi story property. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook our own meals. Shower was especially nice. The driveway was a lot steeper and hard to turn into the parking space than we expected. We could have used the car park next to the property but then we would have had to pay during the day. I believe overnight parking was free. There were some parking spaces at the bottom of the driveway, but they were in use during our stay. Lots of shops and cafes nearby and the train station was about a 5 minute walk from the property. Garden area was lovely and a very quiet and private place to cool off in the evening after walking near the river. I enjoyed the location of the property as there were many day trips and places to see within a short driving distance. Manchester airport was about a 35 minute drive. I would stay here again."

"The outside hot pool and bar great...indoor pool chilly...jacuzzy great....treatment rooms rather stark and chilly....my room was ok...the hotel generally is good...but would benefit from more cleaning of door frames and paints...starting to be on the verge of looking tired...."

The Lamb Inn

"I chose the Lamb Inn because I was arriving at Manchester Airport in the evening and wanted somewhere convenient for a one-night stay without being too close to the airport itself. The inn was an easy 30–40-minute drive away, with plenty of parking outside. It was a hot summer evening, and many guests were sitting outside eating and drinking in the lovely gardens. My room had its own external access and adjoined the old inn. It appeared to be a more modern addition, but it had been attractively constructed in stone in a traditional style and was extremely comfortable. I had a drink and dinner in the garden, and the service throughout was excellent. I was initially slightly hesitant about the ambitious menu in such a traditional-looking country inn, but the food proved to be excellent and I would recommend it without hesitation. Breakfast was included, although it is worth noting that service did not begin until 9 a.m., so I had to adjust my plans slightly the following morning. It was well worth waiting for, however: everything was freshly cooked to order and served in the charming old inn. I would highly recommend the Lamb Inn as a base on the Manchester side of the Peak District. It offers convenient access to Manchester and the airport while also being extremely close to the attractions and countryside of the Peak District."

"Great cottage for 4 individuals to share on a Peak District hike. Amazing grounds, well kept and clean interior, great stock of amenities including the milk and wine, but most of all the location on a quiet farm was perfect. Great pick."

"Had an amazing week at Cracken Cottage for the New Year, with family. The cottage was spacious and comfortable and lovely and warm and cosy. All of the bedrooms were a great size and very well presented. The lounge was a great area for relaxing there was lots of space for everyone. The Cracken Bar downstairs was a lovely place for food/drinks and Dale and all the staff very friendly and helpful - highly recommended. Fab that the dogs were welcome FOC too.A great base to explore the area with so much to offer. Overall very impressed and would love to stay again!"
