This was a gem of a hotel in the middle of NOWHERE. But I can't fault the hotel with that. The hotel was very clean, staff was nice and my room is huge for even Western standards. Just nothing to eat around that location... 😯

It was the perfect gateway into our Ryokan/onsen experience with beautiful & spacious accommodations in a super private and relaxing setting. Having our own onsen with view of the mountains was an absolute dream after a week in the big cities. The attentive staff were exceptional and brought dinner to our room that we cooked over the coals for a unique experience. Overall an incredible retreat to come back to after a busy day of onsen hopping. Truly a first class experience!

Upscale hotel with separate cottages. Quaint with thatched roofs. Food and staff were excellent.

The Luna Observatory Auberge Mori No Atelier was an amazing hotel. The staff was friendly and courteous and could even speak a little bit of English, which made our check in a breeze. The room was spacious and offered many amenities. Our family was thrilled to be able to sleep in a tower with a huge telescope right above our room. The dinner was absolutely delicious, best food I have had in Japan so far. The breakfast was a delight and I was impressed to try Pineapple Jam for my first time....

Great Ryokan. The property is beautiful and it's not far from the Kumamoto limousine bus stop (the hotel gives you rides to and from the stop anyway). Short walking distance to a bunch of restaurants and the main area of the town. Top notch service and super clean. The outdoor onsen is incredible. A few (minor) complaints: -Some of the decorations are a bit tacky -You only get one bath towel during your stay. If you want an extra one you have to pay extra. This seemed...weird given the...

The beds are very comfortable. All rooms have great views. Dinner and breakfast buffets offer many options. Highly recommended.

Kind, helpful staff, with a lovely cozy cabin including our own private onsen tub! The grill set and the chance to bring ingredients and cook or own meals on the private terrace made the stay so special and memorable.

Traditional ryokan style. Beautiful surroundings. Very traditional but spacious room. Wonderful Onsen. Close to cute shops and yummy snacks.

Had a great stay here with parents. The staff were really helpful when we arrived, even offering to show us the stars and night sky view

Great hotel and onsen, especially for the price. We were assigned one of the 8th floor themed rooms with the Aso bear as decoration—adorable and great room. Room was spacious and beds comfortable. The buffet dinner and breakfast were well worth the price! The kids’ play room was fun; the indoor pool was great (including a sauna at 95 Celsius). We didn’t get a chance to do the regular onsen, but did reserve a private onsen, which was cheap and well worth it if you’re a little uncomfortable...

Very good service. Near to mount Aso. Spacious room. Staff can communicate in English. A lot of free parking. Provide free public hot spring.
