"My husband and I had a great stay overall. The resort was beautiful, clean, and well-maintained, and most of the staff and guests were friendly. I’ve stayed at RIU resorts several times and have always had positive experiences.
The food was very good and filling. During our 5-day stay, we only ate at the buffet, but we enjoyed everything we tried.
Unfortunately, we had a serious issue on our first night. The resort arranged a taxi for us to get to an excursion. During the ride, the driver took my phone and hid it under his seat, then demanded money to return it. We had already paid for the ride and even tipped him, but he continued demanding more. Security and police became involved, and after a very stressful situation, I ended up paying a total of $160 to get my phone back.
While this experience was upsetting, I don’t want one dishonest driver to define our entire trip. We met many wonderful people afterward, enjoyed several excursions, and had a great vacation overall.
My only recommendation is to use Uber or carefully verify transportation arrangements. Most people we encountered were kind and professional, but it’s always best to be cautious.
Despite that unfortunate incident, we still enjoyed our stay and made some great memories."
