Very modern boutique hotel, including checking in.
Wonderful staff, clean modern in the heart of Valletta.
Location was prime as you can journey out to where ever you want.
Everything is only feet away
Great hotel
Ideally situated in the middle of Valetta for sightseeing, restaurants and bars
Spotlessly clean. Great selection for breakfast and great service
Friendly welcome at check in time
All very clean and the breakfast was very good. Comfortable bed. The only downside was the Oxygen Lounge below us on the street that played very loud music and shouting aggressive voices well into and after 2 am. Otherwise a good location in Valletta.
Way too much noice at night because of a bar beneath the hotel. They play music so loud half of the night - it almost ruined the trip because we only slept a few hours. The hotel itself is really nice and awesome breakfast and very nice lady at breakfast. Stupid you only get one keycard
This was a wonderful clean hotel close to all you would want to see in Valletta ! Lovely breakfast buffet and friendly staff Highly recommend. A rating !!
The hotel is in a terrific central location - all your top sightseeing in easy walking distance.
It’s smart and comfortable - just aim for a room away from the noise of the bar next door, like mine, 304…. Big range of bars and restaurants on your doorstep.
Room is nicely appointed in the pedestrian zone near all tourist sites. Hotel is not manned. You check in with a vending machine. The main problem is the hotel is next to a nightclub that plays loud pulsating music from mid-afternoon to after 1;30 am. Room was vibrating and impossible to sleep. No staff to address this with
The hotel is in a nicely rennovated old building in the centre of Valletta, situated on a narrow pedestrian side street (alley) not far from all the sights of the old city.
If you're arriving with a lot of luggage, you will need to be prepared to walk about 500 metres up hill - and don't expect the taxi driver to have heard of the place, so check out the location very, very carefully before setting off - it's not clear on the directions, the street numbers are misleading, and the hotel is just a narrow doorway.
There is no reception. Check-in is automated, but relatively self explanatory. The machine issues a plastic room key and says it will print out the wi-fi code, which it didn't on my visit.
There were two occasions I had to call the reception number for assistance, both times they were responsive and solved my problems promptly (the room safe ran out of power with my possesions locked in it, and the fire alarms went off one afternoon).
The rooms are clean, the bed comfy, and the aircon is excellent.
The problem with the hotel is its location, directly above a bar/club. There was live music every evening until about 23:00 in the alley outside which was very noisy, then from 23:00 to 01:00 a DJ set/dance music inside the bar. You'll be unlikely to sleep through it depending on which side of the hotel and which floor your room is located.
In summary, it's a nice hotel in the wrong location and I really should've done my research and stayed somewhere quieter.
The King Charles Hotel would be a very good hotel for almost every reason except the utterly terrible noise environment.
The staff are friendly and attentive when available, although that is only a short period in the morning during the cleaning/breakfast period. Otherwise it's self-check in which worked very well and a mobile number for any issues. Not a problem for us on this trip but if there were a need for reception support it isn't readily available.
The breakfast is quite good with many options both hot and cold. To rooms are well presented and generally it is a visually nice hotel.
However, and this is a highly significant issue, the hotel is on the busiest and loudest street in Valletta and situated exactly above the very loudest bar on that street. Every afternoon there is a happy hour that begins with loud music and continues on until the early hours. The bass reverberates through the building and you can hear every word of every song. We had to use earplugs and noise cancelling headphones to be able to get to sleep at any point before the early hours, and that wasn't always possible. This is not somewhere you can return to and relax after a long day sightseeing and frankly makes any stay unpleasant.
It is a real shame because this is a decent hotel right in the heart of Valletta, but unless you're going to be one of the merrymakers enjoying the party until the early hours it's one to avoid like the plague.
Under no circumstances would I stay here again.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
I really enjoyed my 4 night stay here, beautiful room, great location, very helpful staff and a wonderful breakfast each day, I would certainly stay here again. Be aware that there is live music in the street outside every night from 9pm through till 12.30, which might not be to everyone's liking, especially if you like a early night.
We loved the hotel & the central location. It’s on a very busy street that’s full of restaurants and bars. There’s loud music that is muted by the doors and windows except Friday night when we could hear a little music, but it was fine. Every employee we had contact with was helpful & very polite. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
The room was located above a bar (oxygen bar)
With very loud speakers thumping till 2am.
We sent a text to the manager (i have a copy of it on my Expedia). They never responded!
Expedia couldn't get a hold of anyone either.
A asked the nice young lady working there if we could be at least moved to a higher room which she replied that they were booked. A solid terrible experience and sleepless nights. Just AWFUL.
Only one star because it is located right over a bar that plays VERY LOUD music half of the night.
It was so difficult to sleep and kind of ruined the vacation.
The hotel itself is really nice - everything clean and big room and very nice breakfast.
So annoying self check in… takes forever and you only get one keycard even though you are two people…
Great location in Valletta. I had a room in the front. It’s a bit noisy from the street. Very convenient to get around. It’s one block off Republic Street. Contactless check in.
While the hotel itself was clean, well located and the room comfortable enough there was a major problem with the sound coming up from the street below. The bar directly underneath had live music performers on each of the three nights we were there and the loud music did not subside until well after 1am. Even earplugs could not block out the sound.
I now understand why it's an automated check in as they don't really want a receptionist on hand to handle all of the undoubted complaints.
Not really recommended unless you're a total night owl.
The hotel listing makes no mention of the fact that music is blaring on strait street until 1am every night. I was there for work so obviously this wasn’t a reason accommodation. Once I realized this I was proactive in reaching out to hotels.com to request an early check out and a hopeful refund - I received neither. I ended paying for 7 nights for this place of which I spent 1 sleepless night. The hotel and hotels.com refused to refund me a single penny which is outrageous. Avoid this hotel if you’re hoping to get to sleep before 1am or expect to receive decent customer service.
