Florentin

Tel Aviv

A street with a café where people are sitting at tables. There are cars parked on the side of the street.
A bar with shelves of liquor bottles, a counter with bar tools, and wooden chairs.
A wall of shelves stocked with various bottles of beverages.
A restaurant interior with wooden tables and chairs, a mural on the wall, and a staircase in the background.
A chef preparing food in a kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a food safety sign.

Stroll around one of the most stylish quarters of Tel Aviv, appreciating the artsy ambiance and enjoying late-night parties with its youthful population.

Florentin is one of the coolest destinations in Tel Aviv. Tourists haven’t fully caught on to the appeal of this lesser-known quarter of the city, but it holds numerous charms. Wander around a semi-industrial district known for its electric nightlife, younger demographic and burgeoning arts scene.

Discover a neighborhood emerging from a history of poverty. The area was built on Tel Aviv’s clothing industry, which remains a large part of its economy today. In the mid-20th century, as the buildings in the area fell into disrepair, many of the city’s poorest citizens squatted in the dilapidated houses. From the 1990s onward, however, Florentin emerged as a destination for artists seeking affordable living spaces.

Enjoy the art that resulted from this demographic shift, as the area today hosts numerous edgy galleries in renovated spaces. Artemisia supports Tel Aviv’s female artists, while the Inga Gallery of Contemporary Art brings in crowds with boundary-pushing exhibitions. To truly experience Florentin’s arts scene, however, simply wander around the streets admiring the extensive graffiti.

Return to Florentin at night to join local residents partying in the streets. Drinks of Israeli craft beer and inventive cocktails suit travelers of all budgets. Sample food from street vendors who stay active late into the night.

The changing neighborhood has also ushered in an array of restaurants serving quality food. Feast on authentic and hearty Israeli dishes such as shakshuka and stuffed pita in unique, low-cost restaurants. To make your own food, browse the stalls of Levinsky Market for enticing, fresh produce.

Florentin’s borders are inexact. Find it between Tel Aviv and Jaffa in the area around Rehov Salome. Use the city’s bus system to get here or walk from places such as Carmel Market and the Noga Gallery of Contemporary Art in less than 20 minutes. Come on the weekend for the best experience of Florentin nightlife.
