As good as it gets

Second time stayed at property, spotlessly clean with top of the range appliances but.....what really makes it stand out is the team that run it, never had such good communication and I genuinely feel they would do anything to ensure you enjoy your stay 10/10 from me

We stayed here for a quick family staycation with my wife and two young children. The property was spacious, featuring two good-sized bedrooms, a large living space, and a well-equipped kitchen. The amenities provided in both the kitchen and bathroom were great (aside from a couple of dirty plates). However, a few key areas need immediate improvement: Cleanliness: The carpets were heavily stained throughout. With two young children who play on the floor, this meant we had to be on constant alert. There were also numerous cobwebs and flies upon our arrival, possibly because the windows had been left open. Check-in: Process was a bit bumpy. I was told I would receive an email prior to arrival to verify my details and receive access codes, but it never arrived. Reaching the host on site was tricky due to poor mobile signal in the area. Parking: Parking was somewhat challenging, as other residents were not parked properly within the marked bays. On a positive note, the host was very welcoming and checked in with us via email and phone throughout our stay to ensure we had everything we needed.

Under a mile away from the Southampton central station and close to a bus stop, Madison is more like a serviced apartment in a residential neighbourhood than a traditional hotel. Room has a kitchenette with hob, oven, fridge and sink. You also get the standard kettle and tea / coffee assortment, Rooms and the property overall is extremely neat and tidy. Check-in and check-out is remotely managed. You do get a call from the host if your stay is going well, otherwise you are on your own. You also have access to a washing machine and dryer; but. you need to bring your own detergent and softener. There is adequate light through the large windows with blinds to make the room look airy and large. There is no lift and if you prefer a ground floor room you may have to inform the hosts upfront. Lugging the suitcase up the steep staircase can be a. task for some. Parking is available within the premises, although I did not use the facility. Definitely a good place to stay for a few days in Southampton.

I loved that the rooms were self-catering. This was very handy and helpful - it meant I could get a few things from the shops to cook or put in the fridge rather than always eating out or getting takeaway. The room was also very attractive and comfortable. The only thing I didn't like was that the front door slams every time someone comes in and out and I was right next to it. Sometimes the slamming would be continuous for quite a while. They really need to fix this.

When I booked my accommodation I specifically asked for a quiet location and was allocated apartment 4 on the ground floor. This is a small but very well equipped room with an ensuite and was fine for my 6 nights stay On arrival, there were a few teething problems but the staff (via phone calls)were absolutely brilliant with their help and patience for which I was extremely grateful. The Madison is about a 20 mins walk from the station and the location is quiet and safe. There are no immediate shops in the vacinity. However, it is on a bus route and very near to Southampton Common

There was some confusion on my part upon arrival as it was necessary to register on line with a few details before getting the access code. The Chat function via WhatsApp is also very limited by fixed prompts which didn’t work for me. The room itself was nice but with a distinct unpleasant smell coming from the bathroom which I had to purchase an air freshener to partially mask. Overall the stay was fine as I made use of the kitchen area which was fairy well equipped.

I really enjoyed having an apartment for 2 nights. Able to cook dinners and breakfast. Comfortable bed and facilities were all good. I had room 7 at the front. The road noise was noticeable but I wear ear plugs for sleeping and so did not bother me. The Venetian blinds do not completely block out light and I did feel that people could see in with lights on. Finally room was too warm. I used the stand up fan that was available. Doors closing etc could be an issue. I would stay here again but ask for room away from road. I like the whole concept of aparthotel.
