Having traveled to many locations along the Pacific coast in Mexico, I had expected this to be comparable the other great destinations we had visited, however the Puerto Escondido area is even better. It's a little undiscovered (except by the surfers) oasis that offers a perfect combination of tranquility, safety, sun, sand, warm ocean, good food and great people at your fingertips. Casa Colibri was in the perfect location for us. It's 20 Minutes from Puerto Escondito, the Super Che and Zicatela restaurants, yet totally isolated in a gated community providing a very safe environment. The Casa itself was perfect for our group of two couples. We spent endless hours sipping wine, mezcal and Margarita's in the pool, relaxing in the pool side chairs or hammocks. When tired of resting, go down to the beach that starts 25 ft. from the pool, is 400 ft. wide and runs 5-10 miles in each direction. Undisturbed sand as far as the eye can see! The Pacific waters were warm. There is surf so use a boogie board provided if you are unsure of yourself, but we did see kids playing in the water without much fear. Did I mention, other than a couple of beach dogs and 12 people, we never saw anyone else on the beach for the whole time there. It is not uncommon to see turtles nesting, dolphins swimming and the occasional whale go by. The house is great. The bedrooms are perfect with great views to the ocean and AC if needed, but most of your time will be spent pool side or in the open air palapa covered living area. Fresh water is provided and the refrigerator makes ice from filtered water. The kitchen is modest, with all of the utensils and cutlery needed, but if you plan on eating in hire the cook or better yet go explore the bevy of restaurants in Zicatela. Zicatela is a whole other vibe.
For us Puerto Escondido is the best. Perfect tranquility at Casa Colibri with great food and entertainment in Zicatela. Going back soon!
