One must expect a few quirks when staying in a remodeled building that's served an enormous array of guests for many years: small bathrooms, huge windows that aren't as well sealed as new ones, hot water that takes awhile to reach the third floor, heavy front door with steps when entering with bags only to learn that the parking entrance provides a ramp and easier doors to manage. Otherwise, the building's ambiance warrants many repeat stays."

"I was definitely expecting more for the price and the reviews. The room was old feeling and the sheets and towels were the oldest and most worn out of any I have seen at a stay in years. Just felt shabby. Breakfast was lackluster. Parts of the property itself is really beautiful in a special way. But I didn't have a room in the garden area. The best thing about the place was the staff was really nice."

"For a budget place to stay it was fine. However, for a non-smoking room, it sure smelled like smoke. (And on the first day there was a guy walking past all the ground-floor rooms smoking pipe tobacco...) The "hot" water barely kicked in, so I mostly had warm water from the bathroom tap and shower. Bed was pretty soft but okay. Street noise was minimal. Loved that Eureka Natural Foods was only 3 blocks away. "
