The painted turtle is a cozy, cute cabin on a beautiful little lake. Nonetheless, we encountered a issues with the cabin and host. When we arrived at check-in the cabin was not cleaned. All of the beds were unmade, dirty towels on the floor and trash in the kitchen. When I contacted the host she seemed to be apologetic at first saying, “I totally screwed up and didn’t tell [cleaning person] people were coming today… I will give you discount no questions asked”. She said she could try to get a cleaner to the cabin the following day. Despite the offer, we had to spend the first night washing bedding in the tiny washing machine- suffice it to say we were doing laundry all night instead of enjoying our vacation. Note host did not refund cleaning fee.
An additional major concern was the heating. The weather while we were at the cabin was in the mid 30s during the day and below freezing at night. The only heating system for the entire cabin is a small mini-split located high-up on the wall in the A-frame shaped living room. All of the heat was stuck at the top of the cabin versus circulated throughout. There is no heating system what so all in the bathroom and first floor bedroom. While the loft is warmer than other parts of the cabin, it too was too cold at night and we had to wear hats etc while sleeping and still shivered throughout the night. The photos of the cabin show an electric fireplace, this fireplace has been turned off by the host and is therefore unusable.
