Erste Erwähnung fand die Wasserburg unweit von München, 1425 in der Regesta Boica XIII als Blyutenburg. Entstanden ist die Anlage aber schon im 13. JH wahrscheinlich als eine von der Würm (kleiner Fluss im Westen Münchens) umflossenen Motte mit einem steinernen Wohnturm. Nach 1431 wurde die Pluedenburg, wie sie da hieß, von Herzog Albrecht III zu einem Landsitz ausgebaut. Den 30 jährigen Krieg bestand sie unbeschadet, auch wenn oft zu lesen ist, dass sie zerstört wurde. Nach wechselnden Besitzer waren in der Burg bis 1957 das Institut der englischen Fräulein danach der Altersruhesitz der Schwestern des dritten Ordens. Danach war die gesamte Anlage ruiniert, unbewohnbar und fast eine Ruine. 1974 wurde von Obermenzinger Bürger 'Verein der Freunde Schloss Blutenburg' gegründet, der sich in der Folge für den Erhalt und den Wiederaufbau stark engagierte und ab 1980 umfangreiche Sanierungsmaßnahmen durchführten.
