"This ryokan was one of the absolute highlights of our Japan trip. As a couple travelling with two young adult kids, it was the perfect place for all of us to slow down and recharge after Tokyo. The biggest highlight was the four private onsens — no reservations needed, yet there was always at least one (often even more) available. It made everything feel so relaxed and effortless. The ryokan itself is small, intimate, and incredibly well thought out, with beautiful attention to detail and high-quality touches like POLA amenities. If you want to experience a true traditional ryokan, this is it. There were hardly any foreigners, and the staff spoke very little English — but somehow we managed just fine, which made it feel even more authentic. The secluded setting adds to that peaceful, escape-from-it-all vibe. The food deserves a special mention — we stayed for two nights and every breakfast and dinner was completely different and absolutely exquisite. It really elevated the whole experience. We were initially concerned about having no bathroom in the room, but it turned out to be the best thing — it gave us more reason to keep going back to the onsen. Our kids loved it so much they’ve already made us promise to return on our next Japan trip. Highly recommend. ✨"

"This spot was amazing all the way around. Like others have said given that it is a journey to get to, spend at least 2 nights. It was the perfect spot to slow down and relax. The food is amazing whether in the fancy dining room or in the cafe. The onsens overlooking nature and the waterfall were spectacular. Staff member April really made our stay great given her recommendations, explaining and teaching about local cuisines offered. The service is 5 star. I’d definitely return !! "

"The Yunomori onsen ryokan was one of the best places I've ever stayed at. The Kaiseki breakfast and dinner was incredible and the staff were 10/10 amazing. We had an in-room onsen and it was perfect. The entire place was clean and incredibly cozy. I would absolutely recommend Yunomori to anybody! It's a short walk to Yuno Lake nearby and also some beautiful waterfalls. I highly recommend this place to stay in Nikko. It was a very special experience for us. "

"The room was clean and the staff were both polite and pleasant. There is a wonderful lake view lounge and an adjacent game room that you can use to spend a couple of hours away. Sadly, there is a distinct lack of amenties and stores open during winter, so please bear that in mind when you visit the area during this period. We were also unable to visit the restaurant, as we were told that we had to make a reservation in advance, which was not presented to us. Overall, it was a very pleasant visit. "

"Only the price of the stay makes it a 5 star hotel! Fabulous grounds and rooms over Chuzenji lake but the service was dismal. Rooms not ready at check-in but what’s worse is that one of the rooms given had marks of someone having sat on the bed as we walked in. Allocates time slots for breakfast with a few seats at the grilled counter of the teppanyaki restaurant with additional fragrance of the grilled fish from the night before and facing a wall with that. Sharp fish bones found in 2 of the savoury cakes during our afternoon tea. Stupid seating arrangements at the Lake House restaurants with a very uncomfortable sofa and no stock on the only Italian wine we ordered. We have been clients of RC Tokyo for 17 years with no problem at all but the RC Nikko is a disgrace to the Japanese welcoming tradition. It comes down to the hotel management and this GM should be fired! There is a management problem at every level and it generally comes down from the top! Stay away! "
