We had a wonderful long weekend in Luray. We picked this property for its proximity to the river, which did not disappoint. The house is part of a small community and situated on a hillside (don't worry, you are 100% private and tucked off where you cannot see any other houses...just some cows) that maintains access down the hill to the river. You can either walk down from the house (walk is steep but I managed it no problem at 7months pregnant) or you can drive .4 miles to another entrance point. We happened to be there when the river was super high, but the neighbors we chatted with said that typically you can sit on a chair and read a book in the middle of the river. There is a great spot a little bit up the road where you can put a kayak and head down the river back to the house.
The house itself is nothing fancy, but definitely fit the bill. One bedroom is on the first floor and the other two are upstairs. The mattresses were a solid "B". There is plenty of seating around the first floor for reading books and hanging out, and there is plenty of dining seating if you had a large group. The kitchen is basic but functions. We always bring the basics tools (sharp knife, nice pan, etc) but they were generally well-stocked on cooking essentials.
The hot tub was nice, the decks are delightful. The firepit also perfectly hit the spot (bring cash with you and you can pick up firewood for sale along the road to the house). The views were delightful. If you are able, I would bring your favorite camping chair since some of the outdoor furniture was on the older end. They work, but I'd have been more comfortable in my favorite camping chair.
Great spot for a long weekend.
