FAQs: Q: Can you rent boats nearby? A: Yes, Mitchell's Point marina is about 2 miles away, they rent pontoon and ski boats
Q: Why are guests required to bring their own linens, sheets and towels? A: Nearly all guests prefer to bring their own for convenience and cost savings. Same for trash bags, paper products etc.
Q: Can you supply linens, sheets and towels for an extra fee? A: No, but there are linen services there who are happy to arrange that for you.
Q: Is there anything nearby - stores, wineries, restaurants, marinas etc.? A: Yes! The White House store-snack bar-gas station is about 6 miles away. Hickory Hill Vineyards and Ramulose Ridge Vineyards are about 11 miles away, and Mitchell's Point marina & restaurant about 2 miles away. Many others a little further.
Q: What's the nearest channel marker? Where is the house located on the lake? A: The nearest channel markers are R1 and W1, which are close to the dam and the largest, deepest part of the lake. Shorewood Cove is in the Mountain View Shores neighborhood southeast of the State Park. The house is in a quiet cove and close to the best fishing, boating, and water sports area on the entire lake.
Q: I love to fish, drink beer, and lie about both. Do I need a fishing license? A: It depends. If you fish from private property then you do not need a fishing license. If you fish from a boat, then you need a fishing licence. Licenses can be purchased at the local marinas, some stores, and the state park. Beer is sold at marinas, stores and groceries - please enjoy responsibly. Lying is expected, that's why they call it fishing instead of catching.

The property was fantastic! Everything you can hope for (and then some) was included with this listing. The documentation and communication would be 6 stars (if I could rate it as much). We didnt have great weather, but plenty of activities in the house to keep everyone busy! Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again!
This home was beautifully appointed with everything we needed for a wonderful trip! We were only there for a weekend, but it was a fun and relaxing time for the whole family.
The house was lovely. Plenty of room for our party of 6. We didn’t get the chance to use the kayaks but they had plenty with vests to use also! We spent most of our trip on the dock fishing and even though we didn’t catch much, it was so relaxing. The kids loved the ping pong table. We were a last minute reservation during the off season but the hosts were still great about accommodating us and everything was great!
The house is very comfortable, has a fully stocked kitchen, plenty of rafts and floats for the lake, indoor activities, and instructions throughout the house. Highly recommend!
Home was exactly as represented. Clean and with a well stocked kitchen. Owners were very responsive and helpful with recommendations. We hope to visit again and would definitely return to this property.
This house and the location on the lake are perfect for a relaxing family getaway. We especially loved the screened porch (felt like a treehouse) and the dock. We really enjoyed the kayaks and SUP. The owners take good care of the house and it is equipped with everything you need. Everyone asked if we could come back again!
This house had everything you needed for a relaxing trip to the lake. The dock was perfect for swimming and hanging out. The kitchen had everything needed to cook and downstairs had plenty of of games to keep everyone entertained.
This was a wonderful vacation stay for us. The house had everything we could need: kayaks, paddle boards, ping-pong, multiple decks. We had three-generations of family with three teens and had a great time. House was super clean and the hosts were wonderful and very attentive. Would highly recommend!
This was a perfect place to disconnect with my family. The cove was nice and quiet allowing us time to relax. We took full advantage of the kayaks and paddleboards. The owners were communicative before, during and after our stay.
Excellent vacation home. Very comfortable and well equipped. The attention to details to help the visitor was outstanding, particularly appreciated the labeled light switches and QR codes to valuable information. Communication with owners before and after say was outstanding
Our family loved staying at Smith Mountain Lake. John and Michelle were great hosts with prompt communication and wonderful suggestions about the area. The home is tucked away in a nice quiet cove on the lake and we especially enjoyed watching the sunset from the second story dock. Well-appointed, clean and cozy. We hope to return in the summer!
Such a lovely and comfortable home! The hosts are super accommodating and set up a pack and play and high chair ahead of time once I asked about the items. New addition of ping pong, ladder, and ice maker since I last stayed at this home. A lovely and well maintained dock on the best part on the lake!
This was our second time staying at John & Michelle's beautiful home, and it was fabulous! Everything is super organized, and the kitchen is equipped with everything -- and I mean everything -- you need to create a gourmet meal! And not flimsy Target stuff -- quality pots and pans, utensils, baking dishes etc., etc.! In fact, quality is evident throughout with comfy beds and furniture. We love this place! Plus, our hosts made our anniversary special with welcoming notes and treats! What a lovely surprise! Just the best.
We came to the area to visit our son. This was a truly amazing place. It was clean and spacious, with nice amenities. The house itself is quite comfortable and has a fun game room. The highlight is the lake access and immediate availability of kayaks and paddleboards. Also they provide the life jackets. The owners are very responsive and available- though we did not need anything because it is all set up so well!
You can’t go wrong staying at this home tucked away on the cove. We were pleased with how clean and inviting the house was when we arrived. There was plenty of room for our family of five. The kitchen was well equipped so we could prepare all our meals avoiding going out and missing anytime relaxing. The owners were very responsive to any questions and were easy to communicate with both prior to our stay and during our visit. We will certainly be back.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this SML home! The owners have thought of EVERYTHING. The house was clean, comfortable, and exceeded our expectations, Since we had beautiful weather during the Memorial Day weekend, we made use of the outside areas, especially the dock, upper deck, and screened in porch. We also used the kayaks and the SUP, and did some fishing. I'm especially pleased with the communication with John and Michelle, who were available for my questions and requests. I highly recommend this rental!
