Riad Fes Maya

8/10 Good

"Our original rating for this Fes Riad was a solid 5-Star: upon arriving we were warmly greeted. The check-in process was impressive, individual & professional. Moroccan tea & biscuits were consumed & then we were ushered to our gorgeous room: for dinner we went upstairs & enjoyed a terrific Moroccan meal. All good so far. You might be asking why did we then downgrade our rating from a solid 5-Stars to a 4? Please read on. Here is a couple of good reasons: no matter how hard we tried we couldn’t get the TV to work properly in the first night: we called the fella up 3 times. Finally & mysteriously it worked. Then no towels were placed in our bathroom to replace those taken away: we had to follow this up twice: the manager, out of frustration brought up the cleaning lady to our room as she was mystified as we were. Another incident: no toiletries replaced: tried 3 times & gave up. The next day we specifically asked for them. Another incident: we saw the manager in person the day before we needed to leave at 8.30am for a tour: she promised that if we could be seated at 8am for breakfast they would have it ready: we came at 7.50am & waited: nothing until 8.20am: we gathered what we could take with us & left unhappy. Big on promises, but failed in the delivery. Overall, we loved our room & our location but regrettably we also must say the service needs improvement as a genuine 5-star accommodation. Is it worth the money: Yes. Would we stay again: split vote: GreyNomads"

"The staff at Riad Layla were very helpful, including sorting out laundry for us, and providing us with breakfast to go on the morning we checked out when we had to leave very early. The other morning where we were able to have breakfast on the terrace was excellent - very fresh and great variety. There are a lot of stairs to the terrace! The main courtyard was beautifully presented and maintained, and provided a great sense of calm and quiet. Our room was nice, but there were a few things in the bathroom that could be better maintained: a lightbulb needed replacing, the lightswitch was loose from the wall with wires exposed, and it was incredibly hard to turn the shower handle tight enough to stop it from dripping"

"The Riad was beautifully appointed and maintained. For some reason they upgraded us to the Pasha suite on the first floor adjoining the lobby. It was gorgeous and comfortable and very quiet despite being just off the lobby. The breakfasts were very good and plentiful. And the dining room was nice and bright on the roof. We ate dinner in the hotel the first night and the food was very good Moroccan food. The staff were all very friendly, competent and helpful. Especially Haitem. He sort of took us under his wing and helped us with any questions regarding Fes or problems. Overall it was a wonderful refuge to return to after a long hot and hectic day of walking."

"C’était la première fois que je logeais dans un Riad et j’ai tellement apprécié cette expérience: * la communication rapide et efficace * l’accueil chaleureux (thé et biscuits) * l’espace en commun * l’accès aux salons, salle à dîner, cuisine (frigo), la terrasse (laveuse et corde à linge) * la chambre spacieuse et typiquement marocaine * salle de bain privée * petit déjeuner à la marocaine L’atmosphère paisible et très calme où nous pouvions dormir le matin Je souligne la bienveillance dont a fait part Fatima qui nous a accueilli et répondait constamment à nos besoins 💕"
