The Neighborhood:
Bedford is the county town of Bedfordshire and a relaxed riverside hub that balances market‑town charm with big‑city connections. Set on the graceful River Great Ouse, the neighbourhood centres on The Embankment: leafy footpaths, elegant bridges lit with fairy lights at dusk, and Art‑Deco pavilions where you can pause for coffee or a glass of wine. From Dame Alice Street you can wander everywhere - Bedford Castle Mound for town‑scape views, the free Higgins Museum for local art and history, or the John Bunyan Trail that threads through centuries‑old streets.
Foodies are spoiled: brunch at The Pantry, sunset craft‑beers on The Embankment Pub’s terrace, wood‑fired pizzas at family‑run Eatalia, and retro sundaes at Gallone’s Ice Cream Parlour - all within a ten‑minute stroll. Wednesdays and Saturdays bring Bedford’s Charter Market to life with artisan bread, global street food, and fresh local produce.
Green space is a defining feature. Bedford Park’s Victorian lawns, café, open‑air lido, and tennis courts sit to the north, while 360‑acre Priory Country Park - with its sailing lake and bird‑watching hides - is a quick cycle or five‑minute drive east.
The town’s multicultural roots show in its friendly atmosphere and packed events calendar: the biennial Bedford River Festival draws hundreds of thousands in July with boat parades, music stages, and fireworks, while Bedfringe’s theatre and comedy take over later that month, and Christmas markets line the riverside in December. Guests choose this neighbourhood for its walk‑everywhere convenience, lively food scene, and the ease of switching between countryside calm and city adventures in a single day.
Getting Around:
Just 40 minutes by train from London St Pancras yet wrapped in leafy English countryside, Bedford offers guests the best of both worlds: a relaxed market‑town vibe with quick connections to the capital, Cambridge (35 mins) and Luton Airport (30 mins).
Bedford Train Station is a short 15-minute walk away from Dame Alice Street where there are also direct services operating to Brighton and Hove and Corby.
In Bedford, stroll or cycle along tree‑lined paths, rent a rowing boat, or enjoy afternoon tea at one of the Art Deco pavilions. At dusk, fairy‑lit bridges reflect on the water - pure social media gold.
A number of bus routes operate in Bedford offering access to Buckingham, Cambridge, Dunstable, Hitchin, Kettering, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Oxford and St Neots.
