Ann Arbor

The lively arts scene and restaurant culture are pleasantly surprising in this small city, where a cosmopolitan atmosphere offsets quaint historical architecture.

Ann Arbor is a university city offering a pleasant blend of small-town convenience and cultural highlights. Visit museums and educational institutions, eat delicious food and browse outdoor markets.

Walk down the lively main street and soak up the great ambiance. Shop for quirky items at clothing stores or pick up vacation reading at old-fashioned bookshops. Visit Kerrytown Market to purchase handcrafted gifts and art.

Bring kids for a playful learning experience at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. Splash around in the water room, build a Lego masterpiece or get behind the wheel of a replica ambulance. Four floors of fun offer something for all ages, so be prepared to spend several hours here.

Get tickets for a sports match at University of Michigan and cheer along with hordes of excitable fans in the biggest stadium in the United States, with capacity for over 100,000 people, which means the atmosphere can be electric during big events.

Admire the stately architecture of the University of Michigan Law Quadrangle and wander to the nearby University of Michigan Museum of Art. This gallery has one of the country’s most significant university art collections and is an inspiring place to visit.

Enjoy a coffee break after all this sightseeing at a top-quality café or deli serving creamy lattes and gourmet snacks. Eat a more substantial meal at one of the multicultural restaurants and watch a show at Tthe Ark, an iconic folk venue that has been showcasing performers since 1965.

Breathe in the smell of popcorn at the Michigan Theater, an art house cinema that opened in 1928 and has since been lovingly restored to all its former glory.

Rent a canoe from the Argo Canoe Livery and paddle down the Huron River. Stroll around the beautiful Matthaei Botanical Gardens and admire its gorgeous plant collections.

Ann Arbor is contemporary, traditional and fun.

Where to stay in Ann Arbor

If you are ever lucky enough to attend a Michigan Football game, do it! The atmosphere is incredible and you’re surrounded by 110,000 plus if your closest friends :)

Try to tailgate before the game! Bring a car to the golf course early as it fills up fast!

There is a no bag policy so make sure you have pockets! It may not look huge from the outside but when you walk in you’re at row 70 out of 96! So there is a long way down to walk!

It was very beautiful very clean, but one of the amenities I put in that I was looking for in a hotel was a hot tub so that is part of why I picked their and their hot tub was down when I got there. That was kind of disappointing.

The toilet was clogged and since it was late on Saturday night, it was impossible to get it dealt with. Thank goodness there was a public bathroom elsewhere in the building. Overall it was a good advertisement for staying in a hotel.
