"This was amazing onsen beside the Yubatake (which is right in front on the hotel) so you are in the middle of the town they have Yukata you can borrow and take wear to walk and take pictures outside too. "We went on a Japan trip for 2 weeks and this was our favorite ryokan, because they made us feel at home. It's in a little town surrounded by snowy mountains, near Shiga Kogen and Snow Monkey Park. The kaiseki was unbelievable, well worth the price. We don't want to ruin the surprises during dinner and the attention to detail throughout the experience. "Amazing stay at Shimaya. The owners, as mentioned in other reviews are outstanding. Gave us a ride to the Snow Monkeys and were very helpful. The breakfast (¥700) was simple and quick - toast, fruit, yoghurt, coffee and juice! Onsen was clean and great. We were on the fourth floor and the views were unreal. Will for sure be returning in the winter! "

"This was our first time in a Ryokan! And we loved it!! We enjoyed wearing the Kimonos provided and having a multi course dinner! They were also able to provide vegetarian options for dinner as well. The onsen at the hotel was much larger and nicer than the free ones outside the hotel. There is a toilet in the room but no shower, so you have to use the public bath to shower."

We didn’t and have to pay 1/4 more and it was already expensive. I checked the price online for four of us and it was exactly as we paid while booking but the confirmation letter didn’t include kids so we have to pay anyways. Otherwise happy with stay."
