Vacation in an alpine resort surrounded by breathtaking scenery, and take part in outdoor pursuits all through the year.

Grindelwald is one of the largest villages in the Berner Oberland of the Swiss Alps. This ski resort sits at the lofty elevation of 3,393 feet (1,034 meters) surrounded by some of Switzerland’s most famous mountains. Come to ski, climb, hike or simply to enjoy the scenery.

Although nestled between the towering peaks of Jungfrau, Monch, Schreckhorn and Wetterhorn, Grindelwald is nicknamed Eiger village because it faces the north face of the Eiger. The challenging mountain has a notorious reputation in the climbing world.

If you want to ski the Jungfrau ski area, Grindelwald makes an ideal base. From the village, you can easily reach Grindelwald First and Kleine Scheidegg-Mannlichen ski areas. These give you access to an incredible 45 cable cars, lifts and funiculars that take you to approximately 133 miles (214 kilometers) of downhill trails.

Whether you are an expert skier who wants to coast all the way down to the village or a beginner who needs to start with the basics, there is a perfect run for your skill level.

A good way to savor Grindelwald’s spectacular scenery is to take the Grindelwald–Mannlichen Gondola Cableway up to the mountaintop village of Mannlichen. A trip on board one of the world’s longest gondola cableway lines sends you soaring above the trees and pistes.

During the summer, go hiking and mountain biking. Try river rafting in the Grindelwald Valley.

Even if you never venture out of the village, Grindelwald has enough charms to keep you entertained. Enjoy a hot drink at one of the cafés, shop in independent boutiques and choose from the many restaurants and clubs.

Grindelwald is one of the most accessible alpine destinations in the Berner Oberland. Fly into the international airports at Zurich or Geneva and take a direct train connection to Grindelwald Station. International express trains run to Interlaken and from there you can take the local Bernese Oberland Railway to Grindelwald in just over half an hour. The area is also very well connected through a series of highways and well maintained mountain roads.

At Grindelwald, enjoy an impressive outdoor playground with year-round activities.

Grindelwald is unbelievably beautiful. Unfortunately, it is, like most of the best areas in Switzerland, very expensive. Unless you want to pick up your dinner at the grocery, reasonably priced dining options are nonexistent.

So much to do. We went up to first 2 times. Great hiking, wonderful food at the restaurants and so many things to experience. The best trip ever!
