Central United States Kid friendly Vacations

Congress is a convenient and affordable hotel in the Loop, the lake side views are great, the elevators are fast. Grant Park underground parking is a block away and affordable/safe. For those reasons I'll continue staying there. That said, be aware that Congress is an old hotel that is trying to look modern. Wallpaper is peeling by the elevators and our floor had the floor number written on a piece of tape by the elevator button. Paint is slopped on and lots of runs are visible. Crown molding is in bad shape, and some corner protectors are missing pieces. Our bathroom door would not close completely, and our room door had to be pushed to get the deadbolt to engage. The outlets are sparse and not convenient, I had to move the table with the coffee machine under the TV to get the cord to reach, and no cream/sugar. The fan unit in the room was either on or off, no in-between, no thermostat, and really badly painted. The towel holder was IN the shower instead of over the toilet, there was no shower door or curtain, just a half-pane of glass and there was no stopping the water from getting on the floor. For the price and my needs, it's fine. Just be aware that the online pictures don't always tell the true story.
