One of the most disappointing stays I’ve had in Manhattan. Specifically the room. There was a light around the bed that wouldn’t switch off unless I pulled the actual power plug out of the wall. The safe locked itself, (just wouldn’t respond to the code) and I had to get a technician at 1am to open it. Wooden floors meant endless noise from the room above. I paid $1000 per night for 2 nights, you can do a lot better elsewhere in this part of Manhattan.

As a native New Yorker now living out of state, I was genuinely excited to try Sela V and experience a fresh addition to Brooklyn’s hotel scene. The property itself is stunning, thoughtfully designed, visually striking, and full of character. Many of the shared spaces made me feel like I was relaxing in a stylish studio loft rather than a traditional hotel, which I loved. That said, this stay is best suited for travelers who are flexible and already familiar with getting around the city. The immediate area doesn’t offer much in terms of attractions or walkable activities, so first‑time visitors may find it limiting. Service was the biggest miss. For a new Brooklyn hotel with such a beautiful and unique aesthetic, I expected a warmer, more welcoming staff experience. The bar and food options also weren’t clearly advertised, and it was often hard to tell whether they were open at all. The café space was pleasant but very limited. The room design is gorgeous, but a few functional details fell short, lighting, additional storage but particularly the shower setup. With no vent and full glass panels, the bathroom floor stayed wet, which isn’t ideal. Overall, Sela V is visually breathtaking and full of potential, but the service and surrounding neighborhood still need time to catch up to the design. I’d return for the aesthetic alone, but only with adjusted expectations.

Staff were all really friendly and place and location was perfect.

Good sized room especially for NY hotel rooms. The rooms and bathrooms were decent. The property is a little dated. The city view rooms we got were underwhelming views , our stays in other hotels in the area had more prominent views of the city. The staff and overall vibe wasn’t as high end as we had hoped.

Unfortunately, our stay at Hotel Splendide Royal Roma did not meet our expectations. The front-desk staff came across as quite snooty and unwelcoming, and our room had a very unpleasant musty smell. I understand that this is a historic hotel, but considering the price guests are paying, the hotel should invest in better ventilation, high-quality diffusers, or another solution to keep the rooms smelling fresh. We were also disappointed to discover that there is no swimming pool or spa at the hotel. Guests may use these facilities at the sister hotel, approximately 20 minutes away, but there is an additional charge of €40 per person on weekends and €18 per person on weekdays. I believe this should be clearly explained to guests upon arrival—or, preferably, before booking. Overall, we were not impressed with the service, facilities, or value. Sadly, we would not return.

There were 16 of us in our group. I was unhappy with the hotel reception staff; the receptionist who attended to us wasn't very polite and didn't smile once while we were waiting to check in. After a long journey, we arrived hoping for a relaxing stay, yet we didn't receive the kind of welcome my friend had described. It will likely be a long time before we return.
