If you want a boutique, luxury hotel The Saracens Head is not for you and you are not for the Saracens Head. If you want an authentic 'staying at an inn' experience with good food, a wide selection of ales and ciders and friendly courteous staff then you won't find better. From the friendly welcome at the bar to exchanging photos of the night sky with the lady cleaning my room I was made to feel right at home. Being a bit dishevelled in places merely added to the charm of my stay and my spacious room was clean and comfortable and had a beautiful view over the village square. The richness of the clientele with diners in one bar and tradesmen in another made you realise this was a place serving the whole community as well as taking in strangers such as myself. The food was so good I could not even get a table on my first night. If you are having a few nights in the Cotswolds you could do far worse than base yourself in Highworth and enjoy some genuine local offerings before heading to the more well known tourist sites.
